iFi audio ZEN Blue - The Official Thread

Yes I do. But a one box esl solution with built in amp, and dac for that matter since I know you can, would be easier to live with. Not everyone needs a Pro iDSD & Pro iCAN stack set up if we are only using ESLs. With the prices of Class D amplification and dacs being what they are today, think Zen Blue as inspiration, you guys could kill it! 😋

An all-in-one for estats then, now that's an interesting idea! But such product would be most likely big, hot and expensive, and many folks would use external products with it anyway :p

But you know what, I'll pitch the idea internally. Why not, right :)?

If Stax can do it, setting the bar with its D50 for $1200 delivered, you guys with what I’ve seen possible with your Pro line, should be able to deliver better for less? I can’t believe I’m the only one thinking this? I’ll watch this space! 🎧

Sure!

It's always a bit complicated. There are many other factors than our R&D department's ability to build such product, as these chaps can make pretty much everything from scratch!

In case anyone is interested, here is my review of this amazing little unit:

Sorry, if this specific question has already been asked already. Has anyone here used this to replace a PC --> USB --> DAC chain with something like iPad --> Zen Blue Coax out --> DAC. If so, have you noted any subjective improvement? I suppose this may also depend on the DAC, but in my experience, windows tends to very slightly negatively impact a data stream, even if "bit perfect". It would also be nice to use the iPad for streaming without additional cable mess across my desktop.

I'm wondering if skipping Windows would yield greater improvement than the potential drawbacks of introducing an additional wireless data conversion (on top of streaming data on wifi from something like Qobuz). In my case, it would be to an RME ADI-2 DAC, the features of which I've recently grown inseparable from.

Can’t buy the zen blue anywhere? Just realized this would work for me.

You can shoot me a PM with your location, and I'll try to help if needed.

It's a mixed bag and rather broad topic. There are several audiophile apps for Windows (i.e. HQ player) that can improve its audio playback, and this software these days is more friendly to use than years ago. If I were you, I would try something like that and see whether there's any improvement.

Just read all 17 pages here...still looking for a definitive answer on whether or not I can connect the Zen Blue to my Zen DAC...it appears not.

However, it does appear that I will be able to connect the Zen Blue to the DROP Zen CAN Signature (I have on order) via either RCA or 4.4mm balanced input (with another $89 cable).

Can anyone confirm this please?

Thanks,

You need only one DAC in a system. If you would like it to be wireless, then ZEN Blue is the way to go. If you need a wired DAC, then ZEN DAC is the one. But both can't work. If I may ask, why would you want to connect them?

iFi audio ZEN CAN is an analogue headphone amp, and as such it will work with ZEN Blue and ZEN DAC.

Was thinking of wireless connection to my iPhone...there's a lot of insert/remove the Lightning connector. I tend to keep my phones for several years, and just have concerns over the longevity of the connection.

However I'm also seeing that the Zen Blue is limited to 96KHz ? That is probably a deal killer...
