iFi audio xDSD- The Official Thread

A question about charging and using the xDSD.

In the manual I read this “We advise to charge the xDSD switched off.”
But in iFi FAQ http://support.ifi-audio.com/kb/faq.php?id=841 we read a different think!
Since now I took care of my xDSD and never used it while charging but sometimes it is convenient to do so...
I use it in the car while charging. Not so much at other times. As long as it's not CONSISTENTLY being used while charging, and the battery is allowed drain periodically, it's fine.

This one is perfect.

"If you actually have the xDSD permanently attached to USB power it will enter "desktop" mode after the first time the battery is charged fully and the unit is turned off. In desktop mode, the battery is charged to ~ 70% and kept in maintenance mode"

Charge&use is possible but not recommended. The best results are achieved with no external power supply connected.

Has anyone tried iFi xDSD with Astell & Kern KANN Cube? Will xDSD communicate via Bluetooth with the Cube (cube is capable of Aptx HD)?

Also if the Kann is outputting DSD or MQA will the iFi xDSD play it? Are there gaps if the AK plays a DSD first, followed by an MQA? Or switching between other formats?

Thanks, new to all of this, but would love to play my collection through the iFi xDSD or iFi iDSD Black Label.

Any noticeable difference between xDSD and iDSD BL? The iFi website says the architecture is the same for both. If they are the same I would go with xDSD since it has Bluetooth.

Cheers

Sure, BL is all about the power, it has wider and deeper soundstage, higher resolution. It is more neutral.

It also depends on what you are going to pair with. Find a synergy pair for the xDSD and you will be happy, like me)
Yes, you can feed everything to the BL without any issue. With the xDSD I stopped using my 6BA IEM since they do not perform at 100% like they did with the BL (thinking of adding the xCAN to improve the situation), but I would never come back to the BL, at least not to the existing one. To me it is not convenient to use (in my scenario) in comparison with the xDSD.

I would wait for a new version of the BL (it may never happen though) with ALL features of the xDSD implemented (dedicated charging port, battery status indication, "desktop" mode for the battery, balanced output, etc).

iFi Audio set the benchmark with the xDSD, so now I want to see all their products like this)

The balanced cable is ready with a simple plug I found in the local market!
I will listen for some time and I will compare with another same non balanced cable!
If there is a true difference I will get a better cable over all! A better plug for sure!
I think that there is a more open soundstage and a somehow livelier presentation! But might be placebo... I will report back!

Hey guys, has anyone experienced the xDSD go into Bluetooth mode and show a solid blue light as if it's paired, but it's unable to pair with any devices? Even if I hold down the 'settings' button continuously I can't force it to go into pairing mode.

Any workarounds or solutions for this?

Try to restart both, the xDSD and the phone
Try to restart a software player you use (UAPP, etc)
Try to delete/add the xDSD as a pairing device to your phone
What else?)
