Well, if you use multiple IEM/headphones and all of them are already 2.5 mm balanced then it makes sense to make/purchase a 2.5 mm to 3.5 mm adapter.
In my case q-JAYs are the only IEM I use on the go with the xDSD, so I made it S-balanced.

That's cool!

Hi all!
I am so unhappy :frowning2: now!!! I bought ifi xdsd because I saw video with tidal working and unfolding properly
With Huawei Mate 20 pro connected with ifi USB c otg cable.
Basically is not working as advertisied. Very disappointing from Ifi.
Please take video down as what you showing is not true.
It is big shame because this LITTLE machine sound so so good with my balanced AkG N40.
My suggestion is to the Ifi to make proper implementation for android as UAPP did.

Here's an adapter on Amazon that is confirmed to work with the xDSD: https://www.amazon.com/product-revi...p_d_cmps_btm?ie=UTF8&reviewerType=all_reviews

Hey @deepwatrcreatur thanks for the tip. But I don't think I want to use an adapter when I am spending so much money with optimised gear. Also the amazon item is not available in EU.

I would rather prefer to have a clear answer from @iFi audio since they are quite active here. I am new into cables and I am not sure how to proceed.

I am quite sure the 3.5mm balanced cable I purchase is gonna be wired differently. But I am quite sure as well that is gonna be easy to arrange the soldering to the proper iFi S-balanced method. In the worst case scenario I will need to cut the cable and solder a new 3.5mm jack.

My questions:
  1. How to make sure the wiring is correct? What I know what is L or R on the cable?
  2. What happens if the wiring is wrong and I connect? Can I break my xDSD?
  3. What happens when I connnect a S-balanced cable to... for example my phone? Computer? Not S-Balanced amp? Can I break something there as well?
I just want to know the dangers and how carefull I have to be with those cables. Since I have kids and other people around.... Something wrong could happen if they connect the wrong cable to the wrong source.

Hold on a sec, please. If you're not getting MQA on an iFi device, that means that what leaves your phone ain't bit-perfect. We'd investigate that first, some data manipulation probably is going on before our device.

What you saw in our video published a while ago was operational as shown. But android changes frequently, updates happen without people noticing. You can try USB audio player pro and MQA plugin to confirm for yourself that the issue is not in our device. Plus, full hardware MQA decoding is reserved for our Pro range.

If UAPP works with xDSD on outputing MQA then it means the problem isn't on xDSD but on whatever other music apps you are using on your smartphone (or maybe it is your smartphone as well). You are barking up the wrong tree.

This is a known issue here at headfi on this thread. I have posted and asked about to iFi many times. The most likely thing is that a previous version of Android had the ability, the other probably thing is that iFi know how to mess with Android to allow bit perfect with MQA signal to the xDSD (but most likely with legal circumstances), the other possibility is a tricked video by iFi. Who knows.

The reality is that UAPP is needed in Android to succeed with bit perfect and MQA to the xDSD, while giving up features such as the nice Tidal interface and offline Tidal. Actually, what I prefer is to give up on UAPP and use Tidal as it should be, as I don't hear a big difference, actually is the same hearing experience, as my brain is not asking for bit perfect, just the nice musicality from the xDSD and my music library!

I already asked Tidal about the bit perfect feature and gave enough details on the matter, but seems is not worth the "perfection" for a small market of perfectionist consumers. The best solution, stop being a perfectionist, you'll never be satisfied enough as a perfectionist. Take the best things you can, do your best always and enjoy life.

The xDSD is a very nice device for its price, even if you are not using MQA (which is more a commercial thing than a must have to enjoy it). Actually, more expensive DACs that do not support MQA will give you a better experience, so, just forget about MQA.
