I know the IFI reps can't comment on unannounced products, but I hope the XCAN and XDSD are replaced with units with similar power and form factor but the newest Bluetooth codecs.

Suffice it to say, we always have a line of products we work on

Hurry.

I know the world is fighting it's way out of a pandemic and there's a chip shortage and probably other supply chain issues the general public has no idea about. But with your (and your competitor's) products discontinued, there is nothing in the market right now to fill this decently portable high power with bluetooth niche. Nothing. Help us! 😂

I picked up one of these at the start of the month, mine is a demo model that was unused and given away with some very pricey headphones (I have the receipt) but after only about 3 weeks the 2.5 socket is broken

I haven't treated it harshly or anything, it's generally just in my pocket while I'm sat working or walking to work, being a demo unit there's no warranty

Thankfully I'm a technician so I popped it open to have a look and it's ripped clean off the board taking most the pads with it, I should still be able to fix it but it didn't really have to happen in the first place.

For future reference either panel mount the connector, use a through hole or buffer it with the plastic bit to stop stress on the connector

It's high time for 2.5mm to RIP and iFi to release an updated version with 4.4mm.

We already heard too many broken 2.5mm jacks.

they are horribly unreliable in general but a surface mount connector with no extra support is pretty doomed unless youre very careful, i hadnt really noticed its lack of support till it was too late. if they had put some sort of extra support on the connector this wouldnt have happened, at least the 3.5mm is through hole. were i me designing it id have had a panel mount screw and either a plastic or metal wedge in the casing above the socket to keep it from moving or pushing up

with any luck i can just fly some wires to a new panel mount connector and fix it, or so i hope anyway

Most iFi products are junk that don't test well and generally have bad build quality with the xCan being an excellent example of this.

Several months ago I warned people in this forum about the headphone jacks on the xCan. For the 2.5mm they used a cheap surface mounted jack that is not anchored through the PCB like some other jack options available through Mouser. It's a really sloppy and cheap design choice.

I also know a guy from Reddit that has a xCan and the battery clunked out on him just outside of warranty. iFi was of little help to him and even tried to pinch him for more cash. The company has replacement batteries but instead of selling and shipping them to customers they require the customer to send the unit, be it an xCan or something else, to iFi where the battery pack will be swapped out for a new one at considerable cost to the customer. In my opinion that's exploitive. The battery in the xCan uses a JST-type connector and is easily serviceable by the owner. I even asked iFi Support how much the replacement battery cost for the xCan as well as the model number so I could seek out an aftermarket alternative and they dodged my questions. This just demonstrates that iFi is greedy and doesn't care about their customers.

Yeah after having it a while it is something of a mixed bag, while sometimes it sounds fantastic it's delivery sometimes just drops and becomes a bit sludgy

this is definitely the case as the battery drains, so I'm wondering if it's some sort of power stability issue, I may be able to fix it with some poking about with a scope but I'm thinking it may be easier/better to just to make something from scratch myself (although it'd be nice if I could pinch the Bluetooth module and DAC from the ifi to save me some work)

Hi everyone,

Just a quick heads-up if you were not aware, we have a LED calculator live now that you can always refer to if you have any questions on what a specific LED means for your product.

Hi all,

Last weekend, after a two day listening session at a local HiFi dealer, On the bench Hemp, Ananda, Sundara, Ibasso SR2,Shure SRH1840, an unknown brand (cannot recall this one) and an Avatone Planar Red and 5 DAC/Amps (Dragon Fly Cobalt or Ikko ITM03, BTR5, xCan, xDSD).
For the rock/industrial rock the Sundara turned out to be the most neutral and detailed. The Cobalt fried and the ITM03 spiked, BTR5 was amazingly good but a tad less detailed as the xDSD but this one failed on the Xbass and 3D+ (not responding). The xCan is the ticket for the Sundara and add bass and mids and bit more soundstage the Sundara was missing but best of all the xBass and gain just under red brought the Sundara on it's knees the bass got very distorted and needed lower gain but the peformance is cinematic beefy and puches pretty hard and very low bass!

Having to build from scratch (have an older tv and bluetooth speaker+budget dvd player which is good enough for the living room) the Samsung A42/Sundara/xCan is a great start for me and learned higher end hardware may not present as desired.

Having the A42 with 3.5mm cap and Nillkin Wireless charging pad closes off the ports to prevent metal debris (work) getting in thus the Bluetooth option is well regarded.
I want to do this as well on the xCan but has anyone found a cheaper alternative as this?
https://nl.grandado.com/products/st...D_BwE&variant=UHJvZHVjdFZhcmlhbnQ6NjMzNTk3MDU

I have a rca to 3.5 mm cable wired from the dvd to xCan and got even more impressed on the beefy performance of this set as I was on Spotify, Looking forward to have them cd quality later on!
Being a starter in Hifi at 48 I figured any other wearable DACAmp with USB-C or 3.5mm jack likely to be outdated when mobiles are ditching these ports and I figer I'd be quite future proof for the time being.

The only thing to be desired is to have the rca/3.5mm wire to be eliminated for an BT-Tx connected to a cd transporter...
The BTA30 ( cannot find an IFI BT-Tx) would be a nice all cable free option to add but I was wondering if there is a benefit in the more expensive versions regarding audio quality?

Would the sound quality increase when using a CD transporter like Audiolab 6000CDT with Bluetooth connection to the xCan for future upgrade (I believe so CD players without DAC seem to be better) to have a great CD audio experience?

I like to enjoy my music but realise this need not to be HiRes.
Could any shime in to confirm my thoughts are worth living or correct if needed.

Kind regards, Erik
