iFi audio Pro iDSD Signature and Pro iCAN Signature - The Pro range just got better!

First time exploring a desktop that can maximize my IEMs but also drive most higher-end HPs.

How would you guys describe the general sonic characteristics of the Original iDSD Pro? Neutral? Flat? Dynamic? Bright? etc.

The Pro iDSD very much aligns with the more neutral side of our house sound but is still neutral warm. It sits in the middle between our Neo and the warmth of our Zen range.

From the pots operation I was wondering if its logarithmic type...and log pots have various tapers....Schiit Audio amps use them..you have to turn up the pot more to get the same volume level.

Headphone impedance for the HD 650 is 300 ohms but this is at the norm of 1Khz...it varies all over the place in real useage.

Sorry for the confusion ~ I mean what dB setting are you using on the AMP itself?

Normal listening level with D8000 Pro 60 ohm cans, lowest gain 9 oclock. BALANCED.

Normal listening level with D8000 Pro 60 ohm cans, lowest gain. NON BALANCED, close to 10 o'clock.

This tells me that this amp has plenty enough power for low impedance cans, but your never going to get to the 12o'clock position that is stated in the manual for optimal listening.

One reason to get the pot mid-level (12 oclock) is to avoid the low level mis-tracking of some pots....

The two cans I use are 60 ohm and 300 ohms ATM.

The lower impedance cans I showed in the pix.
The higher impedance 300 ohm ones are closer to 11 oclock....at lowest gain...better.

you know the portaPro sounds much better with the perforated lambskin ear pads...... I just need to figure out were I laid mine down

why doesn't ifi just make the products signature from the beginning..... by releasing the non signature versions first and then re-designing them and putting a signature on them just says the original design lacked good parts/engineering.

That's not how R&D works. The original Pro iDSD was in development for several years. It was released at a time when we didn't know how to make it any better considering its final price, utilities and size. It took a while to figure that out
