iFi audio NEO Stream - Sweet Streams!

I had same problems with airplay on firmware 2.16.06, but after hard reset, the firmware was downgraded to the first one and now it works fine. I made reset 2 times.
I have reset mine and rolled back the software a few times without the same result. In fact I ran into other issues with error messages and not being able to play anything.

The only problem that i have in the last 12 months it was that the rooter from provider ( digi rds) was not seeing the stremer as a device and was thinking that was a virus or exploit. After i use a switch in front of router ( or a second router) the problem becomes inexistent and is not making any problem in roon or tidal connect. Air play i just test for 1h and working very well. i have liniar power supply 15v farad.

Airplay worked flawlessly until I updated the firmware to 2.16.06. It still connected fine and played but there was no sound. Approx. 1 out of every 10-15 connection attempts actually works.

I rolled back to the previous firmware but the issue now persisted.

I have tried connecting and disconnecting cables, soft and hard re-boots etc. but with no luck.
If I may, if you haven't contacted support please do so and report this issue. They may have run into it before and have answers for you, and even if not the have the means to do a complete reset (through downloaded software that you use, only on Windows I believe but you can ask) that will set your NEO back to square one firmware wise.

This may help...

To be honest, I couldn't be bothered. This is a replacement unit that I got after weeks of backward and forward with support after reporting the issues. The original unit was a complete disaster.

I'm tired of doing resets, I lose all of my playlists every time and they are very time consuming to replicate again. I also run into other issues such as "failed to open ALSA device" etc.

I'll just wait for the next firmware update that is hopefully not too far away and hope that fixes the issue. If it doesn't then I will take the more drastic actions.

So... when is my NEO able to stream FLAC-files with the use of Tidal Connect? Will the next firmware update fix this?

/ Chris
I was told that all our streamers have this update scheduled for resolution, unfortunately, I do not have a "hard" timetable for you at this time.

Cheers!!

In my opinion are just 2 possibilities:
1 never update to flac because mqa is hardware implemented
2 ifi don’t care about customer and they don’t want to purchase next time Ifi products

Probably is the first one just how was Qobuz implemented at the beginning and now is not even mentioned

hard to say what it is....last firmware update was from July and they never fixed the MQA passthrough problem that i mentioned months before that update

Very true, and rest assured I did mention it, hopefully all these things will be addressed soon (I Know)

In terms of MQA, this is also a Tidal thing, if they were strictly FLAC files the NEO and other streamers would just play FLAC, Much Like 2L Recordings on Qobuz are MQA and play as such even though Qobuz doesn't do MQA (or so they say)

The thing I keep hearing is API updates are being rolled out and I don't believe we have gotten ours yet although others have.

Most up-to-date info I have, wish I could do better...

Cheers!!

Please, could you give more details on this?

2L recordings on Qobuz are MQA and play through MQA-equipped DACs as such, this is because of 2L not so Much Qobuz.

I was using it as a point to say if there was no MQA signaling in the file from Tidal, It wouldn't be played as such, but you have to understand they are transitioning everything over and not want to leave those who like MQA in the dark.

Here is a quick screencap from Roon showing one of the 2L albums from Qobuz playing with MQA...

Tanks for the info. It seems to be only the 2L discs (I have found two in my Qobuz subscription). A curious anecdote, although Qobuz should have rejected this content and demanded the decoded FLAC version from the label.

Do you realise how insignificantly small 2L is versus the 100 million tracks Qobuz serves?

So I was tempted to try Tidal today for the first time. Currently I use Qobuz and mconnect which works pretty well but can be a bit flaky on occasion and really eats my iphone battery up. Using the Tidal connect feature I found that although the MQA files play at 96Khz all the FLAC showed as 44khz on the Neo display rather than the MAX bit rate I was expecting. Is this expected behaviour, or have I not done something?

This is because ifi needs to update the firmware for tidal connect in order for the streamer to grab the flac files.
