I will be having "Fiber" internet installed at the end of next week, Some of these "Cable" companies are just getting outrageous with fees and taxes, so Fiber came to my town, It is time to give it a try, I will have both while comparing so I can report in on that as well.

Cheers!!

Your Welcome, I had read a few reviews online and ignored the usual nonsense from the non believers and folk that just have no idea what theyre talking about half the time. Most of them are merely repeating stuff theyve read with out trying it themselves and I understand all about noise having tweaked my system with numerous things from cables to powerstrips , isotek filters, built my own power cables etc.

After reading quite a lot of this threat I thought it only right to add my unbiased experience to help other people thinking of trying it.

It was a nice little upgrade and removed another layer of digital hash. Its like they say you dont realise you have noise until your treat it. I think my system was sounding pretty decent before hand and this has given it a further boost. Im heavily into acoustics and have been learning it for around 5 years now so I also have a fairly decent listening environment having built most of the things myself. I think it helps when evaluating new things and equipment.
Agreed! Sometimes it gives a slight audible difference, and as you say, once you hear it you can't un-hear it!

If you don't hear it or feel it? Return it, that's where I have always stood.

Cheers!!

Im hoping to do just that soon and get a home trial on a new amp if I can find a dealer that does home demos if I leave the deposit. Im interested in the Hegel 120 or Nait XS 3, just need a home trial to make my mind up.

^Interesting to hear remowing a switch from the chain betters audio?
I recently added a cheap tplink switch in the network chain as i’m adding a Roon Core. It degrade the audio quality comparing to direct connection to Huawei router. cant tell what exactly, but dynamics are narrow and “feel” like there is white noise in the black background.

After a week I added this LAN silencer I think the audio recover from the weird feeling I got after installing network switch. Not a lot better but it recovers to the state how it previously sound like.

So my experience says adding a cheap network switch does bring negative effect to audio quality., and LAN silencer fix the weird feeling.

Hello all!

Just completed all 30 pages over two days.

Interesting reading.

I have a slightly different set-up and would appreciate input on placement of the LAN silencer(s).

System:
ATT optical to home
combined Optical Router/modem (BGW 320)->then hard wired home Ethernet CAT 6a 100 feet to an Ethernet wall plug->short Ethernet wire to TrendNet switch (IFI power X)-short Ethernet wire to ->FMC (Fiber Media Converter) and Optical Moat with Sonore Deluxe Optical Module->short Ethernet (inakustik) cable into Zen Stream (Linear Power Supply).

I use Tidal Connect (hoping to switch to Qobuz “Connect”) from External server. No computer in chain. Local files on Samsung T 7 through USB drive on Zen Stream.

Frankly it all works very well and streaming is approaching local file quality.

My thinking is to try one after the Modem/Router (before the cable run) and after. The “after the run” is the dilemma.
At the Ethernet wall plug? Before the switch or after? Immediately or at the FMC?

Obviously I need to try for myself but thought I would solicit thoughts and opinions.

(Rest of the system is: Zen Stream->Schitt Bifrost 2/64->Linear Tube Pre->Bryston amp->Magnapan LRS+.)

Cannot hear/perceive noise/distortion or other atypia but neither did some of the other writers above till this item was tried.

Thanks for any and all input.

My advice would be to use it right on the Zen Stream, other folks have posted that they have had success further back in the chain and reported good results.

So I would start at the Zen do some listening and back it up in the chain to see if you notice anything. Then, continue dropping back until you are happy.

I use mine right at the Zen.

Cheers!!

Sir,

Thanks!

Any update on your fiber install and comparison?

(I use AT&T fiber which actually lets me send a ping to server and have the “jitter”calculated. Very interesting to see it versus suspect it.)

Interested to hear update.

Just a brief update on my experience with Fiber vs Cable internet.

Most of the improvements have come in the form of Reliability of speeds vs. Improvement/Degradation of Streaming Quality. The fiber I have installed is 1Gig Down and Up, and is very stable and consistently gives a quality experience.

I honestly can't say I have had any great improvement in sound quality from streaming providers, however, the savings in my wallet and the consistent quality of the service have me much much happier!

My son tells me his gaming has greatly improved, (don't game much anymore myself)

Cheers!!

I bought the 300 megs fiber and have no problems. I wondered if the fiber and router/modem would “enhance” your signal.

Slightly off point but the “gaming” is better because of decrease lag or more vibrant visuals?

Best,

Sean

Sean,

Yes my son used to complain at times about lagging with the old service. His exact quote was "I do not lag at all now"

Cheers!!
