iFi audio iDefender3.0 (Official) - Ground Loop Eliminator

It works pretty well on my end, although I have to admit, my PC was quite noisy to begin with, the PSU is kind of old, and the motherboard was noisy with everything. Happily, it works and I can hear the differences with a ton of equipment.

What a lovely feedback to read on Monday! Thanks!

Hi,

Any advantage to "upgrade" from previous idefender3.0 to idefender+ and expected sound quality ?

Tks !

It varies from one system to another. If you already have one iDefender, instead of changing it I'd have a think on how to improve my USB line further.

I purchased the igalvanic and it works great, love it.

If the purpose of the igalvanic is to break group loops and the idefender also breaks ground loops, what is the purpose of the idefender in these configurations?

If you'd like to provide an external 5V line for USB that's cleaner than the one in say a laptop, iDefender would allow for that.
I think there's some confusion.

My question is regarding the idefender in relation to the iglavanic. In the image i pulled from the ifi site, what is the purpose of the idefender if i already have an igalvanic since they both break ground loops?

Both these products handle ground loops so they overlap in that sense. That's why if you don't need an external clean 5V line and already have iGalvanic3.0, you don't need iDefender.

Ok thanks for the clarification.

I wasn't satisfied with your explanation so I decided to try the ifi defender. Received it today (that holiday prime shipping speed tho) and connected it as per the image without the additional 5v power as it is connecting to a Denafrips Ares II dac. If this is incorrect, please let me know.

My chain is PC > usb cable > igalvanic > idefender > usb cable > Denafrips Ares II > Audio-gd m19

As quoted directly from the site "It significantly reduces the system noise floor and makes for better dynamic contrast, warmth and resolution."

It does exactly this. The difference is not huge but I can hear it.

@iFi audio My questions is, why does it sound better?

Please correct if I'm wrong, my understanding was that galvanic isolation was a one and done thing? Are there levels of galvanic isolation?

If I add another idefender in between the pc and usb, will that yield additional improvements?

Does the iusb3.0 have the same capabilities as an idefender?
