iFi audio hip-dac 2: just the tonic for headphone fans

Ok...but iPhones these days are packing with Lightining to USB-C cables, which can be used for both data and power connections. I don't see the need for this camera connector and quite frankly it seems rather obtuse and ridiculous. Like my friends who use iOS devices would really want to pack this giant dongle just to use a portable amp. Kinda defeats the purpose as a portable device if users need these adapters and makes it unnecessarily clunky.
That Lightning-to-USB-C must have been introduced with the new iPhone 13. I got an iPhone 12 last year, and it didn't have that cable. And not everyone suffers from instant upgrade-itis, so I'm guessing there are more iPhone 12s and earlier models in circulation than iPhone 13s.

You clearly don't recognise a big community on this form complaining about the use of USB A but in your world that majority still wants USB A connection. You must have a thick skin.
Is it really a big community complaining or just the squeakiest wheels requiring the most grease? Most iPhone owners probably are just reading this thread and nodding in silent agreement every time Sebastien or iFi explains why iFi made the USB-A port fit the Apple CCK so perfectly.

As a longtime iPhone owner who has used a bunch of different DAC-amp dongles, I can't tell you how much I appreciate the attention to detail and ease of use for fellow iPhone owners with this design.

I agree with people about the USB thing and iFi should have upgraded the unit. I am also disappointed in not being able to buy one without that ridiculous "feature" known as "MQA". I neither want nor need it and do not wish to pay for something I find annoyingly usurious and useless to people who want to hear the music not "Moolah" Bob Stuart's flaccid take on it. I purportedly listened to MQA when they had a comparison booth with an Onkyo DAP at a show several years ago and in a blind as a bat self test, I had no clue what "version" I was listening to. In other words, I ain't buyin' the ENC, i.e., Emperor's New Clothes. Not even in blue or red by iFi.

Ah well...iFi makes some nice stuff but anything with snake oil like MQA is not getting my money.

ORT
MQA don't work without MQA file's, it supports ISO file's too but that not a reason not to buy one,now is it? Just say I hate MQA and Bob lol 😆

By big do you mean those that don't use Apple products?

I'm sure there's tons of products just like this that you could love, perhaps you could point yourself towards those, and then lead us poor USB A iPhone users to said product?

Complaining without examples or solutions is silly!

Cheers!!

Just making a statement on file types an ISO is a compressed file or a container for music or any other files you my want to compress, think of it as a zip, rar, etc
Thanks the only ISO I was familiar with was the one used to write a disk image.

Appreciate the answer!

Cheers!!

does this stuff have both an MQA renderer and decoder, thus if my Tidal app sends a partially unfolded MQA to it, would it do the second unfold and render it?

Yes, hip-dac 2 is a decoder and renderer, so if you send partially unfolded MQA to it, it will do the rest on its own :)

Any ideas about stock availability in the UK, Can only find 2 places that sell it so far, both say unavailable and pre-order, seems to be available to buy in the USA though

My iPhone 12 came with a Lightning to USB C cable. I don't know if it does data though, never tried that.

The USB-A port is simply a concession to Apple's moneygrabbing techniques, as explained by iFi in this thread (though not in those words).
