So long as that fetid and foul MQA is included I will not buy it. I recently purchased a FiiO KA5 USB DAC because It does NOT have that crappy, useless sheeeit MQA.
MQA is dying beause it is stooopid. Why is it still used by iFi Audio? It is a farce.
I’ve spent a couple of months with a hip-dac2 driving everything from Bowers Px7 S2 to Letshuoer S12 Pros and I have been nothing but impressed with what it brings to the table. Granted the Bowers really don’t “need” it to sound great. But the difference it makes on my IEMs is amazing (vs a straight 3.5mm to lightning dongle). I’ve even gone to balanced cables on them to take full advantage of the HD2s power output. It just rocks!
IEMs used:
Letshuoer S12 Pro
Letshuoer D13
Moondrop Kato
SeeAudio Yume Ultra
Will I get the Gold Edition? I don’t need it… But I DO want it
Ps. On MQA. I’ve utilized both QoBuz Studio (FLAC) and Tidal HiFi plus (MQA) free trials. I’m staying with QoBuz. Tidal did sound great, and they are implementing FLAC on a slow rollout now, but QoBuz just sounds better…

As it turns out, your KA5 will stoop down and play even the lowest-quality MP3s that you could throw at it.
How dare they cater to such trash and offend discriminating, entitled ears such as yours? if a company draws the line at MQA, it should be implicit that anything worse is also unacceptable.

As it turns out I can not hear any difference and have more than a few Mp3s on hand. How ever, I did not have to pay a fee via licensing, to Darth Stewfart as one does with MQA. The FARCE is indeed with you my young Badawan.
My OG Hip-Dac is still going strong after three years of use, two of those when working as a school caretaker (janitor). It got dropped and banged more than most, but survived.
I’m assuming that this new version still has MQA because previous versions did, and it made more sense to keep it as a feature, rather than spending time and money removing it.
