That's essentially what I heard. I found it hard to use anything other than er4s after all my comparisons. The new er4sr and xr are great and the experience of using them is better (cabling, look, microphonics), but I couldn't justify the upgrades once I compared sounds. Hf5 was good, without and with the s adaptor. I also have another 100ohm adaptor I tried them with. Definitely not as detailed in the treble and especially the bass. All subtle differences, but differences nonetheless. I also tried er4b for a while. Er4s for life for me.

My friend in China is going to measure er4s tomorrow through:
crysound711, b&k 4195, b&k 4128.
Also my modded x11(another pair).

Hello everyone,

So, my er4sr cable failed at the point of the left driver connector. It started crackling and now there is not sound.

Looking for a sturdier cable. Any recommendations on where to get some? Had a look at Lunashops but not so sure about the difference in prices between two of the styles ($35 or $65) they have (only looking for the same use 3.5mm, non mic, non-balanced set)

At $60, Ety's officlal cable is not cheap but I didn't like the fact that it failed me after less than a year of ownership. ER4PT cable still going strong (thank God I didn't sell them because they have stepped up to fulfill the SR duties)

Do you have FR and distortion measurement comparisons of ER4XR and ER3XR without the resistor?

BA's should have lower distortion without resistor. Applied on my hf5, x11 at least.

This thread has been immensely helpful. I'm glad I got my current HF5s; while the ER4 is clearly superior, and the ER3 potentially so, it sounds as if they compare well enough to be worth the cost reduction. I only use HF5s driven by a Schiit Fulla 2 at work, and would prefer to have $100 sitting on my desk if the last person out forgets to lock our office as opposed to $180 or $350 (!)

I'll post a extensive measurement for both hf5 and x11. Amps will be burson cv2, focusrite forte po, jds el amp, tpa6120a2 portable amp, asus u7 po.

Channel matching is pretty good - at least on the pair I measured:

I still prefer the sound of the ER4XR, but that's just me. YMMV.

Curious how 45 Ohm resistors cost $170 more than 22 Ohm resistor, hey?

you can try thd measurement for er3 w or w/o resistor as well.

Maybe closer than hf5 + ptos but still " ~ "not " = "imo. Cables are different, the resistance are in the different form etc.
