If you still love Etymotic ER4, this is the thread for you...

This is more along the lines of what I am imagining...

Is there not an available cable that would fit the bill along the lines of the qJays cable you mnetionned along with the following adapter: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/FOR-ETYMOTIC...127628?hash=item43eb7514cc:g:OYUAAOSwvFZW7NlK

?

Thanks again,
Z

There is no one piece cable that does what you are asking. AWWAN adapter might be your best bet though I have no experience with it and can't confirm whether it will work or not.

Ok thanks.

Can you tell me where I could buy connectors for the stock ER4 connection? As well as your recommended 100ohm resistor for this application?

I have extensive experience soldering and might attempt making a cable using an apple earpod cable...

Thanks,
Z

I believe you could buy the 100ohm resistor off ebay, but you have to message the guy for 100ohms (75ohm p to s adapter is the standard). Also i'm not sure if the earpod cable would be worth it to solder (seems like it is pretty limpy) I would just go with the ones on lunashop or a shure/westone cable if you happen to go down the AWWAN adapter road

ER4 2pins connector: http://www.lunashops.com/goods.php?id=5384

ER4S requires 100ohm resistors, I'll strongly suggest you get the Vishay Dale CMF50 series as it has a smaller size that will fit into the connector easily (most regular size resistors might not fit at all) and they are known to be quite transparent sounding. You can find CMF50 on Mouser, DigiKey, Element14 and most major electrical parts suppler. Try not to buy them of eBay as fake components from China is always a big problem.

p/s: The smaller pin is hot (where the resistor is soldered to), the bigger pin is ground.

I'll not recommend just getting any random 100ohm resistor from eBay as they most likely won't fit into the ER4 connector. Some resistor types are also known to degrade sound a bit more.

Also, as I have mentioned before, random cable from Lunashops might not work fully as they are not MFi certified. So you will be taking a chance there.

I was actually talking about the p to s adapter sold on ebay by a third party user. He has a good reputation on here and can vouch for him through personal experience. Heres the link:

Okay, but that's not what @zpro is looking for.

He is looking for AWWAN's 2pins-to-MMCX adapter (which in theory should let him uses a MMCX cable that has mic+remote for iPhone, yet get the ER4S sound that he wants), not an impedance adapter (which will actually make it impossible to use mic+remote of any kind).

Thanks d0od and clieos.

Sorry for the confusion and yes I was referring to this here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/FOR-ETYMOTI...127628?hash=item43eb7514cc:g:OYUAAOSwvFZW7NlK

I believe I will attempt to make my own following the information provided by ClieOS and a pair of donor earpods.

Many thanks to you both!

I've heard of people on here talking about that, unfortunately, due to the new Head-fi update, I don't know how to search the threads. From what I remember people saying, they were pretty good and most people used a shure/westone cable, not sure what resistor. I was thinking of getting them at one point, but was scared off by the fact that it takes some force to take off the current 2-pin. People said they've used pliers to get them off, which kind of lured me away, but, if you are comfortable, I would navigate through this fourm and read more.

Just want to double check with you ClieOS:

Is this the right part (CMF50100R00FHEB):

<sigh>......you guys are costing me money........
Have a set of er4xrs coming now. I just picked up a pioneer xdp 100 and been listening to it through either re00s, UE tf10s, or vmoda 80s (vocal). Should be a pretty good upgrade though :smile_phones:

There isn't any artificial ears that I know of (B&K, G.R.A.S., etc) that is rated to measure anything under 100Hz accurately. You can't match something precisely if there is no tool to do the job.
I guess my experience with the ER4 series, because of the detachable cables and identical drivers, is that I can always swap the sides and choose if I want the left side or the right side to have more bass, depending on my mood...
