If you still love Etymotic ER4, this is the thread for you...

still, my er4 has the best matched channel I've measured in all the IEMs I've got since I bought a coupler. that's why I wonder how it goes for you with other IEMs.
I have an issue where I listen to very bassy music and it really amplifies the lack of matching below 100hz .... is it possible that all the other IEM's are worse in this aspect? I have moved into a noisy flat and I would really appreciate the extra isolation that an IEM has ....

There isn't any artificial ears that I know of (B&K, G.R.A.S., etc) that is rated to measure anything under 100Hz accurately. You can't match something precisely if there is no tool to do the job.

Shameless bump for the ER4's cable build thread - to those who want to sign up, please do so quickly (link in my sig). There are still 2 slots on batch 2, which I'll want to lock down this Friday. in order to have them built and shipped before the middle of September, as I'll have to temporarily stop the build thread for at least 2 weeks due to an oversea trip and won't be back till early~mid October.

Nowadays I'm using my ER-4S with QLS QA360 and it seems I finally found a player for ER-4S. I've not tried S with other pricier models but all I can say is QA360 is great choice for ER-4S in terms of both power and synergy.

Ok so I am new to this thread: Bought ER4P a couple months ago and completely fell in love they do everything I ever wished an IEM could accomplish. Then I bought a P to S adapter and was blown away.

But I need more: I use them to workout and need and inline mic/3 button controller for use with my iphone.

Any recommentdations? Is lunashops a good place to buy cables?

They have this: http://www.lunashops.com/goods.php?id=4988
and this: http://www.lunashops.com/goods.php?id=5548
I don't know if the 100ohm resistor is built in though...

I am aware of the awwan mmcx converters, but I am huge fan of minimalism and having the smallest possible iem's...

Also, has anyone ever bought and used this: http://www.lunashops.com/goods.php?id=5681
It seems to have an mmcx connector, but I am not too experienced with this stuff.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

None of the above has any resistor built in.

I have this ^. It is not an actual IEM, just an empty ER4 look-alike shell that is meant for DIYer to put driver of their choosing into it and turn it into a fully functional IEM. I can tell you now that the BA driver which ER4 is based on will not fit into this shell without some extensive modification, which is the reason why I have not tackled it yet even though I already have the shell for a couple of weeks now.

Anyway, I'll tell you what I told one of the guy who is in the build thread - iPhone is picky about what kind of mic+remote that can work on it, so the safest choice is to use a MFi certified mic+remote and mod it to be ER4 compatible. Another way will be to get the FiiO i1, which is an MFI certified mic+remote+DAC+amp with Lightning connector, then make a shorten ER4 cable for it (which is what I am doing for that guy) - this will be a bit more bulky than the first suggestion, but should be better sounding overall.

Thanks for the input ClieOS.

Fiio i1 seems interesting, but I would like to have the mic/control inline close to my mouth along one of earphone segments of the cable so I can take calls. without having to hold anything up to my mouth. Something along the lines of the stock apple earpods...

Any options out there for this? I do not need DAC/Amp or lightning connector (using iphone se).

Should I just get the awwan adapters and order a good mmcx cable? Any suggestions in that case?

No readily available option that I know of that can give you ER4S with mic+remote.

That's really up to you. I am more inclined to mod a MFI cable with ER4 adapter myself.

As much as I love my ER4's I wouldn't take them to the gym. For the gym I would get an IEM with an MMCX cable and get one of those cheap bluetooth cables (mic is built in) on ebay (I use mines with the se215). When I workout, sound isn't really the #1 priority. Also the microphonics would kill it for me. as well as the fear of getting ice-picked in the ear, and potentially breaking the cable. For me it's not worth the risk especially the fact that people tend to get rough with gym iems,

Seeing as you are quite the industrious ER4 fan, is this something you could custom make?

Thanks for the info btw I really appreciate it.

If I were in your shoe, I'll get myself a q-JAYS replacement cable that is iOS compatible (around $60), cut off the original SSMCX connector and soldering in an ER4 2pins connector with the required 100ohm resistors inside. Cutting off the earpiece on an Apple Earpods and replacing them with ER4 2Pins connector + 100ohm resistors will also get the job done - it is much cheaper this way but earpod's cable is not nearly as nice as q-JAY cable. Would love to help you with this, but I am busy with the current ER4 cable build and probably won't have time for extra project till some time October.

All good points and I agree. I still feel the need to bring them to the gym. Personally I can't stand mediocre sound quality even if I am simply working out. Another thing that bothers me is having to use several sets of iem's. I have se215's and absolutely hate them.

Does anyone know if using the awwan mmcx adapters along with a standard fare mmcx cable that has inline mic and buttons will work or does the addition resistance screw things up?

Something like the ue900 cable?

Thanks again for the input, I appreciate any info!

This is more along the lines of what I am imagining...

Is there not an available cable that would fit the bill along the lines of the qJays cable you mnetionned along with the following adapter: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/FOR-ETYMOTIC...127628?hash=item43eb7514cc:g:OYUAAOSwvFZW7NlK

?

Thanks again,
