If you still love Etymotic ER4, this is the thread for you...

@gixxerwimp My ER4P's cable is cracking in certain places and I wanted to make a new one. @vechung helped me figure out most of the stuff. I just wanted the name of the product as I am going to use something similar to solder the wires to and then these pins will go into the ER4P earpieces/buds.

This video tells us how to make a DIY cable for ER4P.Have a look.

Btw how did you use the Google translate on the image ?

Holy crap! He used copper nails to make his own pins to stick into the armature enclosures? Seems pretty risky, and potentially damaging to the sockets. Not to mention it's a lot of trouble to go through when there are already plug-n-play solutions available. I bought AWWAN's Ety-to-Shure (MMXC) adapters with the 4P resistors already onboard. Just plug in your Shure-compatible cable of choice. This mod is also reversible. You can remove the adapters and put the stock cables back on if needed.

There's a link to my tutorial on page 375 of this thread.

I can read a bit of Chinese, so I guessed that it said "copper nails" at the top.
Google Translate on Android has OCR for many languages.

Do you guys hear crosstalk in this test?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTvJoYnpeRQ

I heard about 10% crosstalk with the stock Etymotic cable.

I just bought these cables with the Shure MMXC adapters from AWWAN and there's ZERO crosstalk.

It makes me wonder if Etymotic intentionally added crossfeed to their cables. Perhaps it's to mimic speakers?

I'm on the subway listening with AWWAN's adapters and Shure 1-button remote cables. Zero cross talk :)

From Shure, why them specifically? I noticed that someone is using adapters with Moon Audio Silver Dragons. Where would I find these adaptors?

the problem I see with the 901 is that once you've solved the balanced cable thing you end up with double the voltage swing on a DAP that is already not really made for IEMs but more to deliver a good deal of power, you end up with maybe 3 or 4 volume steps to use(the rest being too loud of too quiet, but most likely too loud).
but of course I'm the kind of guy to get an amp only to get better volume control at quiet volumes, so maybe not everybody feels the need to get just the right loudness like I do?(now don't get me wrong, I think a lot of good things about the 901, it's just that one practical problem I felt that pushed me away even of the single ended use).

Well perhaps then I get the 901 w/ IEM card? I think then this whole adapter-capable thing would be avoided. 4pts in HM-901 already w/ IEM card. Done. Whadya think?

ah yes!!!! didn't get to try IEM amp, forgot all about that, so maybe my concern is not justified. ^_^ good call.

Here are the pros and cons of balanced explained by Rob Watts - and he should know.

Single ended with IEMs looks the favourite way to go.

Got a question about the ER4P and custom cables.

I'm thinking of making my own using one of these adapters:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/261798838391

My main question is if I get the above cable would I need to add a 20-30 ohm resistor to the adapter? Ifso should I put it in series or parallel?

Another option is to grab one of these:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/290630811020

Would the Shure adapter have the resister/impedance built in? I can't contact the seller so I'm not sure which route to go.

Do those cables have the built in resistor that the stock cables have? The P's have a 25ohm resistor wired into the cable.
