If you still love Etymotic ER4, this is the thread for you...

Got the Wagnus amp today and like always I set down and pair all my IEM with the new toy and yes once again ER4S came out as a true winner on treble, it won all the other gears I had. It is because of this darn IEM that I cannot enjoy open sound, the forward vocal of ER4S is so addictive.

Red filters. Red filters. Red filters..... That sounds like a horror movie line. :p

I need to try different filters but I am loving what it is now. It is just a little lacking when it comes to large orchestral music and rock music but honestly on the things I use it with it is perfect.

I think the red helps add the slight bass and openness those would benefit from, without taking away from anything else..,

Anyone here ever faced the problem of the silicon tip coming out when pulling the er4s out from your ears? It happens quite often with the stock small triple flange tips that I use, and it is a little annoying.

I've only had this happen when the tips are worn of I've swapped them off an on a lot. You can hold them up to a new pair of tips, and the hole in the tip is clearly larger than before. At that point they're not really safe to use without getting stuck in your ear.

Personally, I just use the pliers on my leatherman and pull the tip out carefully. Just very very gently close the pliers until you finally grab on the edge of the tip and then work it out. If you're really worried you can always go to an ENT.

Or just cut some spacers from the stem of another tip. Take that piece of stem and put it on the barrel of the ER4, then put the triple flange tip over that. It will fit much tighter.

Actually hRTf are all very similar among people, not enough variance to call it significant. We evolved our hearing patterns through evolution and we all carry the same adaption as such. Sure reference targets aren't perfect but far more accurate than the potential human errors of comparative reviews which are always present

I'd take this statement with a healthy grain of salt and encourage those interested to google for "intersubject variability in HRTF". There's a lot of information out there that actually points to the opposite (including the 2012 Olive-Welti paper, on closer examination). But as always, statistical data is open to interpretation and not everyone will arrive at the same conclusion.

Also, I don't seem to get that evolution argument. So everything evolved through evolution will end up being the same for the whole world population?

I see a lot of people use the Westone as a replacement cable but i dont want over the ear, what else would you recommend (i only have sound in one ear now)?

A pure sound cable? http://apuresound.com/er4.html

Moon Audio Silver Dragon V1 IEM Headphone Cable http://www.moon-audio.com/moon-audio-silver-dragon-v1-iem-headphone-cable.html (may not be able to source accessories for Etys)

You can wear the westone cable upside down for under-ear wearing.

Hi

Do you have a link for getting the westone cable?

Westone cables:
http://www.westone.com/store/index.php/westone-music-products/accessories/epic-replacement-cables.html

Etymotic cable adapter for Westone cables:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/FOR-ETYMOTIC-ER4-IN-EARPHONE-CABLE-ADAPTOR-S-/300592438512?pt=US_Audio_Cables_Adapters&hash=item45fcb49cf0

Make sure you insert the cables the right way round. You'll have to do a polarity test to verify you got it correct (if it doesn't sound right, just swap one of the channels):
