Just pulled the trigger on a pair of ER4XR,... Please tale me they don't have QA issues and are long lasting?

I've been using a set of ER4SR's since 2016-listening daily. Replaced the 3.5mm cord once, last year.

Just my anecdote: I bought the ER4XR in 2017, and have worn them on and off all these years. The only things that needed replacing all these years are the filters and the triple-flange tips. In other words, the consumables.

You have nothing to worry about. The ER4xx is very sturdy. The enclosures are barely bigger than the driver. Etymotic has always made rock solid products. I still have and occasionally use a pair of ER6i that I bought over a decade ago.
ER6i - so do I. What a great little IEM it is/was! After they stopped making it I managed to find one in a "dollar bin" of an hearing aid shop online. Grabbed it and it still goes strong - not my daily driver, ut reliable

The ER6i was my very first Etymotic, too.

I know this isn't ER4 related but it's the best community for anything Ety. Quick update on listening enjoyment endgame set is ER2XR with white (680ohm) filters and medium size Comply P-Series tips. Unreal sound.

For production I still use green filtered Evo since it's such a beauty on reference sound with that extra bass to help with producing anything with drums but for portability and pure enjoyment I take these 2XRs everywhere I go now. Everything so open and with sublime sub-bass. Cannot believe Ety do endgame sets for like £70!

By the way my apologies for people waiting for the reusable filters I've yet to send out. I started forming them only yesterday as I have been quite unwell for the last month but back to normal and better even :)

I'll be in touch with the following etyheads soon:

magicalmouse
knee deep in epoxy
shoui catemoji

Or if you see this just feel free to private message me with your postal details and I'll confirm your request and send the filters.
And yes they are all free of charge. Proof of concept work really :)

Thank you etyheads!

They are but be careful with the cord. Try to avoid having it catch onto anything youre walking by or whatever... the connection can fray near the earphone and then the sound will start to cut out. Ive replaced many Ety cords over the years. And the cheap cords arent as nice as a real Ety one and theyre a bit pricey... so its better to get the real Ety replacement if you have to, but even better not to have to replace at all.

Just got ER4XR today, and in quite happy. First impressions soundwise are that they are very similar to my HD650, just with added sub bass. Frequency response kinda tale the story.

When it comes to insertion, they sit like earplugs. People really exaggerate. Yes you can feel them, but other then that - stop complaining! Where else will you get this kind of isolation.

ps. The isolation is super.

The most interesting observation sofae is compared to my Fiio FH5s.
Right off the bat, when you A-B, then the FH5s has a much bigger, out of the head soundstage, but at a cost of lost detail.

With The ER4XR, you can hear detail between the bass hits and the vocals, and again details between vocals and the highhats/symbols.

As the Fiio FH5s is much more "just" bass, vocals and highhats/symbols. (Yes I'm exaggerating... But you get the pont right )

Lastly, it runs better on a Dragonfly red, then on my phone... :)

I see that you also have their Yu9 ER4B, how does it compare to these?

Some more useful information I've found from chinese reviews (as I am fluent in the language),

Of particular interest is the FR compared to the ER2XR:

Frequency response differences with different tips - Red: foam, Green: Large triple flange, Blue: Small triple flange

Take note that the measurement rig was not specified, but the comparative differences are useful enough. The U556 looks like a hybrid between DF and Harman in its mids and comes with bass between that of the ER2SE and ER2XR. Very interesting.

@ClieOS hi, do you know anything about the Yu9 (fish 9) ER4S DIY clone? How does it sound compared to the original ER4S
Two minutes later....

It is very close, if not identical. If fact, though I already have two pair of original ER4S (one as my main pair while the other as backup), I ended up getting two pairs of YU9 because of how good I think they are. Sort of like backup of backup of backup:wink: Let's just say I am not going to run out of ER4S anytime soon..

Can anyone here fill me in on the replacement foam tip options for my ER2XR (my understanding is that tips are pretty interchangeable between ER2/3/4)? The stock grey foam ones are my go-to right now but they're a bit tight. That's amazing to me as every normal-insertion IEM out there (i.e. Not Etys) are way too small and fall out, but I digress.

I'm seeing Dekoni Gemini Bulletz are an option and Comply has a couple options too (100-series and some flavor of their professional canal tips). I was considering hunting down some beige Ety tips but I would think memory foam ones will be better and easier to find. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
