If you still love Etymotic ER4, this is the thread for you...

I want some help choosing an Etymotic iem for me.
Tonality matters more than details to me. I like some warmth and liquidity in my sound. I like my midrange to be full and forward. Lastly, I like my treble relaxed, but not lacking in extension. So I have decided to go with the er2XR. Am I making the right decision? Also, is the sound of the er2XR liquid? I like to hear wet reverbs. I dislike dry sound.

I have tried the ex4xr and sold it - bought the ex2xr and kept it and use it daily, it is not warm in the sense the fiio fa7 is warm but no etymotic will be, i had the er4p many years ago and that was difficult to listen to with poorly recorded material (of which i have plenty from the 1920 and 30's jazz)

I don't now if you have heard the re 400. that's the only neutral iem i have in my collection. if you or anyone have /has those, can you compared both iems?

RE400 is far from neutral.

Could you still compare them?

Can't, as I don't own ER2XR but a ER2SE. However, given you are not exactly looking for a neutral IEM anyway, RE400 as a reference isn't a bad thing either.

I love my HD 650's mids. I am looking for those mids in an iem. Is there any etymotic iem that has those mids?
Also, are the ER2SEs an upgrade to the RE 400?

I didn't heard the ER2XR, but based on FR graphs and on some good reviews, YES. It has a "liquid" sound in the way you want.

I had the ER3XR and it's another big YES. Very smooth and neutralish sound, with relaxed treble (not too much). The ER2XR is similar, but with more Bass.

About the RE400, It has much more treble fowardness than any Etymotic and the mids aren't as neutral as the Etys.

Thank you. That's good to know. My re 400 has slightly dry mids. I hope it's not the case with Etymotic mids.

They are not liquid , the one I said definitely is . Also I have other ones that are liquid
That's sad. I actually wanted to try the etymotic mids. Read great things about them.
Sadly, the model you recommended is not available where I live.

To my ears, the re 400's are fairly neutral. I've misplaced my re 400's but from what I can remember, the er2xr's are better in every way - lows are more present, mids and highs are more resolving.

It is relatively neutral in the sense that RE400 is fairly flat up to 2kHz. But as a whole it is not exactly neutral. At least not when you compare it to any Etymotic.
