If you had a $10,000 dollar budget.

Hehehe, just built my dream system with a similar budget to that :)  Unfortunately I still didn't get into speakers yet.

Power Plant Premier
PS Audio Perfectwave DAC with Bridge
Woo Audio 5 maxed with upgraded tubes
LCD-2 with ALO chain-mail cable.
Black Sand Violet Z1 MK2 power cables for everything
Acoustic Zen Silver Rerence MK2 IC between amp and dac.

All in all it really sounds like heaven and miles away from my prevous WA6SE +HD650 set up...but with a huge price increase.

My next step is to invest in a pair of Zu Soul Superfly speakers which sound pretty awesome for the price and will hopefully run well out of my WA5 amp.

I'd spend $1500 on my current setup, and the remaining $8500 on cocaine and hookers.

I'd go for:

Lavry DA11 DAC ($1750)
Cavalli Liquid Fire Amp ($2500)
HE-5LE Ortho Headphones ($700) (because I'm partial to orthos and I like the HE-5LE better than the LCD-2, though the LCD-2 is nice also)

I already have plenty of computers.  My Dell Mini 9 running OS-X is my favorite source, because it's completely silent.

That leaves $5000 for other things.  My portable rig would be

iBasso D12 ($285)
Westone ES-5 IEMs ($950)
Yuin PK-1 earbuds ($159) for when I want to listen to earbuds instead of IEMs

The remaining money would be spent on speakers, probably Magnepan Model 1.7 Planars ($1995)

That leaves $1700 for an amplifier for the planar speakers.

I already have my dream system and it cost just under $10K to achieve it.

And writing this post made me realize that I could net back most of the amount if I sold it....

Though if I had an additional $10K, I'm sure I would quickly blow it on speaker gear and more music. I would probably also want $10K more to get into vinyl - wouldn't want to cheap out on the turntable, cartridge, and phono stage you know.

I have my dream headphone and speaker setup already and it was under 10k, but I search a lot for deals.

Blue Hawaii $3500
Stax O2 mk1 $1200

Audible Illusions Modulus 3A $750
Bedini 25/25 $700
Quad ESL 57 $1100

Add in a nice vintage source for a couple hundred bucks and it came out to about $7500...not bad :)

My first answer wasn't explicit enough. I'd spend:

$3,500 (approximately) to build the Linkwitz Orion3 with Adcom amps.

$2,200 for a Zana Deux to drive headphones and be the Orion3's preamp.

$1,400 for a HD-800, the headphones I listen to the most.

$1,700 or so for a Gyrodec, RB300 and Denon DL103.

I'd spend the rest scavenging for a SACD player and a phono preamp.

That would get you most of the way towards a really good system. But like ASR said, I already have my dream rig and it cost more than $10k. I'm not quite done - I still have a number of projects to finish. They're 90% paid for, I just need to get the workshop together and put the time in.

I'll go for:

Eddit Current BAlancing Act
LCD-2
A 4 tray Qnap NAS
Linn Klimax DS
Mac Book Pro
Weiss DAC202

Dreams go on...........................................Oops, it's far over the budget.........................

Something involving a bass-heavy R10 probably.

There's more than half my budget already.  I've got no clue what I'd add to it since I generally don't pay attention to stuff that far outside my budget.

LMAO and I though my budgeting was hardcore...

You did choose a pretty economically ineffective music enhancer though :p. But who knows, maybe those strippers are also classically trained singers?
