I have a pair of UE superfi 5 pros I use for general listening and when I got my iphone I bought a pair of UE metrofi 220vi's but have never been that impressed by them, I dont find them very comfortable, the sound quality is no where near the 5 pros(i new they wouldn't be) and there is loads of noise from the cables.
I have about £100 (uk) to spend on an upgrade, the options must be iphone specific(mic, buttons etc) and IEM's.

Any thoughts/experiences.

As I don't own an Apple..I have no experience with any of these but from what I have read I would pick the Phonak and Klipsch. And if looking for something cheaper than the a-Jays Four. You can find more about these on the forums.

I use the Etymotic hf2s with my iPhone 3GS and have been VERY happy with both sound and voice quality. (Disclaimer: I am a major ER4P fanboy...) The good news that they are also currently on sale at the Ety site:  http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/hf2.html

Note that the control button on the hf2 mic toggles the iPhone music between play/pause; I don't believe it has controls for fast forward/reverse. I have not found that to be an issue for me, but in the interest of full disclosure...

Click once for pause/play, click twice for forward, click three times to back.

I had Ety HF2s for a year or so, bought on the assumption that as I used my iPhone as a player a mic was an absolute necessity.  I won't comment on SQ but I will say that ultimately I found the mic pretty pointless as a feature-it worked fine but background noise if you're outside just made me switch to using the phone's built in mic for longer calls. Since the getting rid of the HF2s I've just used IEMs without any playback controls or a mic and I don't miss having a headset at all.

And moving away from the mic/remote requirement opens up your IEM possibilities enormously.

There's also the option to add a mic/remote adapter like Shure's or this one from Amazon.

I use etymotic MC5's with my iPhone and I think they are great. I didn't get a mic on mine, you can get ones with full remote in MC3's. Some points:

The build quality is supposedly better on MC's than HF's, neither are metal bodied though. MC's are polished plastic whereas HF's are a sort of soft touch rubber.

Mine improved loads with burn in, so dont be too upset when you first hear them. Supposedly the MC's had a little more bass than HF's.

Foam tips are rubbish, the headphones stick too far out, they are stupid on this design of headphone. Tri flange are where these are at. They go really far into your ear, but are super comfortable. I found best way is to not push and screw them into your ear, but instead choose the tip the seals perfectly when put in the first time. Hope this makes sense...!

The right tri flange tips seal brilliantly, no issues there with noisy people in the street. I went with the larger white ones, found much better seal and much better bass with these.

Do you really want a mic and remote on canal headphones? I thought the effect of hearing yourself through the seal would be strange, like when you can hear the cord banging around. Thought it would sound weird having a coversation like this.

Genuine apple in-ear headphones with remote and mic are £10 free delivery on ebay from a seller called ecell accessorize. The ones that are £70 from apple...Worth a thought, I've got some as well as etymotics.

Sound wise, these aren't bassy headphones. Bass is there, deep, enough of an impact, doesn't have any over emphasis though and no mid-bass hump. This is what I was after, and it sounds great. I was worried there would not be enough bass- but I think it is great. I listen to electronic music, and it sounds awesome through these.

Volume wise, I listen pretty close to the maimum limit, only a few squares below. They still sound fine, but, if you are a little deaf then you might struggle. I don't think the sound will improve much adding an amp.

Most importantly, you can choose funky colours!

UPDATE: Those in-ear ones from Ebay were fake....bummer, thought they were too good to be true. Genuine my ass....

having used tf 10 + aftermarket vi cable and Klipsch image X10i I can tell you that anything iphone specific is going to be overrated and not particularly useful, since it's really not much of an effort to use the iphone manually out of your pocket. Don't expect too much from any mic, and expect faults to appear in your cable at the buttons more easily than the non-mic models. having said that, you downgraded with the Metro.Fi 220s, and should probably just buy a vi cable for your Super.Fi 5s rather than a whole new set of phones.

well all IEM is well suit with iphone

I'm sure the the iPhone might have just a little trouble running the ER4S or ER4B...  I wouldn't know for sure, but it just seems that way.

I think that you can not go wrong with either Etymotic HF2 or Phonak 022 (can always get tray filters for another £10). Although i have to say that both of these are analytical sound earphones with very smooth sounds, great mids and highs and a lack of bass quantity. Well thats etymotic HF2 and the phonak with grey filters with green it is quite a warm sound with good bass that is forward and still does not have that bad details! For more details on the Ponak 022 check out my review in my signature!

I notice not many people on here ever seem to mention the Velodyne V-pulse.  Perhaps not too many of you have them.  As far as Iphone specific IEMs, I find them to be leaps and bounds better than the regular Monster Turbines in almost every area, particularly build quality and fit/comfort.  If you are looking for an analytical set, the Etymotics would be better, and they have one of the better microphones I've ever encountered on an IEM cable.  But If you like amazing bass, The Velodynes are excellent, and at $89 they are very well priced.  I own the shure 215, the regular Turbines, the A-Jays Four, The Klipsch S4i, all with iphone controls, and of the bunch, I would recommend the Velodynes over them on any day ending in "y".
