For more information on the micro iDSD and others:

I just had a look there, and what did i see:

USB 2.0 type A “OTG” Socket
(with iPurifier technology built-in)

my eyes nearly popped out! your were really teasing me on that one, I keept asking you about the iPurifier, nearly bought one but you kept it a secret until the end. Good stuff!
I am super excited now, not even to mention the super high res sample rates the mciro iDSD supports, I cant even get my head around how big a single song file for Octa DSD will be...

  And more to come…
Last but not least, within the next few days, we shall outline how the upcoming first production run of micro iDSDs will be special “Octa-Adopter” units. There are extra goodies - these will be collector’s units in the years to come.

Watch this space!

I am watching! The competition should be trembling with fear right now... this is a huge launch.

Some of the competition is still busy taking AND RELEASING unfair measurements of their competitors… I wonder if they'll do the same once the micro iDSD gets in their hands.

I think it would be amusing seeing the reactions of the people who work on third party player apps such as Onkyo HF player, Audirvana, or BitPerfect once they hear that they'll be having to put a display recognizing the new formats when almost all other DACs don't even go past 192kHz.

Hi,

Dont worry - we're already in dialogue with the developers behind a few of these apps.

Fingers crossed, wont be too far off.

It wont do any harm if you, the customer gives them a nudge as well because we all respond to a kick up the backside!

But well spotted!

Hi!
I am new to the forum. First of all, thank you all very much for the great discussions!

I am considering to buy either the nano or - after reading this thread much more likely - the micro DAC, but I am not certain whether I could use the DAC in the way I want:

My audio PC is either switched on or in standby mode. I want to switch on/of the DAC only with my audio PC (the DAC itself is always switched on and gets power from the PC (USB2) - or not). The PC automatically switches to standby after some hours of missing activity. USB is switched of completely in standby mode.

Is it possible to use the DAC in this way? Will it destroy the battery? (using it in this way the battery will never be fully charged and I guess after some months it will be completely empty...)

Thanks a lot for any help! (and sorry for my bad english)

Hi,

1. The battery in the nano iDSD and micro iDSD both have top-up technology. So they dont keep charging even when full to slash the battery life. When full, they revert to "top-up." This is a very simplified answer but you get the idea that battery life is prolonger, whatever happens.

2. IF you switch on the iDSD (whichever) after you have connected a powered USB cable, then the iDSD will automatically power from the USB power line. Until you switch off the PC. Of course, you should switch off the iDSD and repeat the same process next time.

Actually for the battery in the iDSD, if you keep it away from extreme temperatures, that along with its top-up system will prolong the life. Expect 3-4 years.

Hope this helps. You can open a support ticket if you wish to receive the nano iDSD manual and we can answer/email any pdfs you need.

Oddly enough, I found about Octo on facebook.

I would like to know what system requirements for computer for DSD512 are - I have seen it as an option in foobar2000, but did not anticipate to see actual hardware to be available so soon.

As there are no recorders (A/D) available commercially, and DSD256 is only supported by Merging Horus and of recently its son,  Hapi, I am interested if you have plans to also venture into A/D part of the DSD develiopment/progress - at iFi prices. DSD256 recordings, the real ones that did not start their lives at some lower resolution, are still scarce and for all practical purposes, nonexistant. I find therefore DSD512 capable DAC a bit like putting the cart in front of the horse - but appreciate its inclusion to ascertain future proof status of the micro nevertheless.

Dear IFI-Team, this was the fastest reply I ever got in my live, thanks a lot! Also thank you very much for the great support!

Your answer makes it much more clear for me ("I do not have to care about the battery"), and that is great. However, I have one additional question: I will use the DAC only at home, therefore I think I do not even need the battery (maybe except for the - I forgot the name - extra boost I could get for my headphones..).  If I do not charge the battery (I am very lazy and I know that I will forget to switch on/of the DAC in order to charge it), will there be any problems?
Thanks!
