Hey all...

I might rue the day I send this message, but gonna send it anyway. I have an absolutely mint HP8 MK2 Signature with a slew of NOS Tubes that I am potentially looking to sell. I am interested in a different tube amp for a bit of change. Amp sells for $1900 currently through Audio Archon with all of the upgrades. I have up to $2000 in tubes for this amp that I would be willing to part with a good portion. Hit me up and I can send you pics, discuss the price if you are interested. I have an opportunity to get an amp that I have always wanted to own...

Icon Audio HP8 MK2 Signature
Mint Condition
6SN7 and CV-181 Tubes
12ax7 and 12at7 Tubes

Please let me know. I will post by weekend... This thread gets first chance at my amp.
Wait--WHAT?

Yeah yeah yeah, I know. I am acutely aware of what I would be giving up. You and Jonathan know me well enough to know that I wouldn't do this without a really good reason or a strategy for what's next. I would never just sell my HP8. It it without peer below $3k in the tube amp world. So, knowing that I must be doing something pretty special...:-)

I was taught that before you judge a man, walk a mile in his tubes.

(I was also taught not to mix metaphors...that lesson didn't take)
That is cute. I am doing what I think is best. As you know, I don't do anything without overthinking it. I have a sign on my desk at work that says "excuse me while I overthink this".

I will not make this decision in haste.

As long as you don’t mix fine audio electronics 😊 with sonic dreck 😞

The above observation is certainly not germane here:

I would have jumped on your sale if I had caught sight of it earlier. It was a good deal and congrats to the buyer. I've been eyeing this amp for awhile and will likely get one.

A New Member of the HP 8MK2 Club... built-in headphone output of the Matrix-Audio Element X isn't terrible, it's just not "tubes"!

Burning in new production JJ 12ATX7s (waiting on the Brimar CV455s Footscray to ship from the UK)
Burning in new production Tung Sol 6SN7GTBs (need some reasonably priced NOS to try here - Raytheon VT-231's maybe))

Need to think about replacing the caps (V-Caps, Mundorfs, Jensens, etc) ?

Barely an hour on this amp and I am really liking it...

Any other needed mods? upgrades?

Wonderful choice on the Brimar CV455 KB/FB tubes!! If your HP8 is the Signature version, it has the Mundorf capacitors. For the 6SN7 spots, Ken-Rad VT-231 s are a great match to the Footscrays.

I agree that the Brimar CV455 is a terrific input tube for the HP8!

In fact, I first heard about these tubes from @jonathan c (an excellent recommendation).

I've also tried several NOS Mullard 12AT7s...great tubes for this amp.
