I have owned these for a couple of years. I had them in LTA MZ3 for a while (before switching MZ3 to 12SN7s).

I'm not shallow enough to believe the look of tubes correlates to their sound...

So I'm guessing these very handsome power tubes will sound really good.

It just keeps reminding me that I need to buy socket savers for my HP8. I have a pair of Sylvania JAN 6SN7WGTA Brown Base 1955s and a Amperex "Fisher" 12AX7 1959 currently in my HP8 and it is sounding quite lovely. I love this amp more and more each day. Although, I am still vacillating over getting 1 more tube amp. I want the Decware/ZMF OTL or perhaps an Eddie Current 2A3 or 300B amp. I'd love a Stellaris from DNA, but the wait is 18 months which is too long for someone with my impatient brain.

I bought tube savers for my HP8. They turned out to be such a PITA that I removed them:

• It was harder to unplug the tube from its tube saver than to unplug the attached tube saver + tube from the amp (especially true of the 2 power tubes) ... so on the few occasions I switched power tubes, I ended up unplugging the whole thing from the amp anyway
• The tube saver for the single input tube is somewhat less cumbersome...but once the amp sounded a certain flavor of wonderful, I forgot all about switching between my 5 or 6 NOS input tubes and just stayed with one of them for months, making that tube saver kind of moot

There is an Aficionado and a Studio Jr for sale. I will pass on both. Not ready to buy one. But, at some point in 2024 I want to try a 2A3 or 300B amp. Nothing but time. For now the HP8 is glorious, so I don’t feel a need.

Thanks Peter. I have also stopped changing the tubes often and have been spending 1-2 months a time with a combo. I really like the Sylvania’s and the Amperex together. I’d like a pair of Ken Rad VT-231s and I’d like one more driver tube, but certainly not necessary.

I might rue the day I send this message, but gonna send it anyway. I have an absolutely mint HP8 MK2 Signature with a slew of NOS Tubes that I am potentially looking to sell. I am interested in a different tube amp for a bit of change. Amp sells for $1900 currently through Audio Archon with all of the upgrades. I have up to $2000 in tubes for this amp that I would be willing to part with a good portion. Hit me up and I can send you pics, discuss the price if you are interested. I have an opportunity to get an amp that I have always wanted to own...
