It's likely both

I'm still working on my review, and it's been a very enjoyable process so far! Can't wait to publish it.

OK , jocking aside, I have drunk only one beer!
This is of the rare few instances that I feel ready to write the review after a couple of hours of listening...

Nah. SR3 for in-home use with a desktop amp or one of the new powerhouse portables, and SR2 for use in portable situations where you have less power available to drive the headphones. The SR3 does require more oomph than the SR2.

Really? I find they are for whatever reason, even easier to drive and work great with portables. They are very sensitive, as am I. lol

Oooo.....this says a lot about the level of achievement of the sr3.....coming from one of the best review contributors in this forum...

But genuinely, this needs to burn in for a better representation of this headset. I didn't realise this until i put on my good old hd558 again after putting it aside for quite some time and had a What moment why the impression is so different from when i initially compared them when i got the sr3 new.

Looking forward to both @voja and your review on this

Some mixed feelings for sure. If the DX120 can push full potential... Though I'm not sure I believe that. At any rate, I'd likely use them with the Shanling H7, unless my M8 can drive them.

Full potential would be from a very good source and amp. I didn't say full potential, at least for my comment, but the SR3 are not hard to drive and can sound very good out of some daps. Balanced out of the DX320, extremely good.
