If you look back through this thread, you’ll see that I’ve been a huge fan of these IEMs.
But of course, that doesn’t stop upgrade -itis. Over the last few months, I’ve purchased several campfire audio IEMs: original Andromeda, Atlas, Vega, and on Black Friday sale, a b-stock Solaris SE.
It turns out, that the IT-04 defeated the Andro, which have been sold.
Now I’m comparing IT-04 to Solaris. Much closer battle than vs Andro. I’m listening via Hugo2go — both plugged in at the same time. Small volume difference, probably 2 or 3 dB louder from Solaris.
Detail is similar from each IEM, as is tonality in general. And headstage is also quite comparable
Biggest difference seems to be bass tonality. Here’s an example — ‘Calling’ by Bliss. There’s some percussion instrument which comes in @ about 17 seconds. From Solaris it sounds like a mallet on a solid bock of wood, while from IT-04 it sounds like a mallet on the outside of a hollow wooden box. So I wondered which is correct. Turns out Utopia and HEKse say IT-04 is ‘more’ correct, although even the IT-04 is brighter than either of those full-sized cans. But the character of that instrument is more accurately conveyed from the 04s.
P.S. I really like the Vegas. Next bout is IT-03 vs Vegas vs Atlas
