I do own the it01 and have to admit the mids are kinda thin and a lilttle bit recessed, which is understandable because you have a lot of energy in bass and treble already and while the it01 have good resolution, they just don't have that kind of layering to handle that kind of tuning that you want: strong bass, meaty mids and bright treble W shaped kind of sound, you get what I'm saying?
Still very enjoyable though, just don't expect them to have rich and smooth mids.

Personally I have problems ethically with doing that sort of thing. I will send things back if there is a defect but I would never order two things knowing that I will send one back. ONLY if the retailer is ok with that up front. You could ask amp3 first.
Based on the returns policy, your not allowed to use them before returning them. And Amazon are out of it01s so I'm stuck now.

Wow, this information was really helpful but adds so much complications for me. Because so many people have mixed opinions on these regarding the mids and also the treble. In your experiences how are the treble on these? Because some people say it's just about enough, while some others think it's on the brighter side. Even if I get an iem which has alot of bass and meaty mids, I still want detail, good separation and air or it will just sound hollow like my ostrys.

I don`t quite agree with this assessment. I personally, with my gear and music, do not find mids recessed nor distant/laid-back. Male voices have nice thickness and weight.

Have anyone tried the IT01 w/ Balance Cable? Noticeably Better? Impression?

Thanks.

I just received a silver coated 4.4mm cable from the famous HK seller. It was a cheap($16) cable that a member recommended in this thread. I used them with It01 on my sony zx300. Here are some very preliminary and subjective impressions.
1. Vocal is noticeably further.
2. I had to turn up the volume by a big margin. This is really odd cuz zx300 has 4x more powerful output in the balanced vs SE. Seems like a problem with the cable.
3. I felt like there's a 'screen' between my ear and the IEMs. I didn't have such impression with the original cable. Either the original cable blow my new cheap cable out of the water even on SE, or I didn't have enough burn in time with the 4.4 output. I have about 40 hrs on the SE but the 4.4 is nothing.

I need to listen more to tell if there's meaningful improvement switching to balanced. But it also seems very cable and DAP dependent. The original cable is really good. I would have purchased a better balanced cable of I were to make a fair comparison.

You're in the UK right? Amazon UK had 8 IT01 in stock yesterday, 2 black and 6 red and blue. I just checked again and they are all still there...

Those ones are also sold by amp3 but fulfilled by Amazon. Would that still fall under amp3 policy of not using before returning?

I actually called amp3 and they did say I could use it before returning it, but there policy says otherwise. However, if I don't like these and amp3 refuse a refund I will be extremely gutted as ill be losing out on a lot of money since I can't even quick sale my ostry on eBay.

If you're buying through amazon you won't get the amp3 10% discount. Also, amp3 have got two FiiO fh1 at a much cheaper price of £65 as they're opened boxes.

Amazon delivers them, if you don't like them you return them to Amazon I guess.

Haha yeah I was wondering why it weren't working. The fh1cost £75 new and ibasso are £90 so I would of saved £10 on both of them, which I don't mind since these I can get tomorrow whereas the other ones will take upto 4 more days. But thanks for the suggestion anyways I just hope the ibasso ends up being the best one since I will know for sure that I can give back the fh1. Im starting to think now that people with midrange issues haven't tried all tips, maybe that's the problem

Oh cool, you get them tomorrow. Well, maybe what I'm happy with on mids you might of course find too thin or recessed. I look forward to reading your reviews after you've tried them. :)

Yes of course I will, and yes you are right but the way I'm hearing these aren't the best for mids but it may work for you and hopefully for me.
