Agree wholeheartedly...as the old saying goes...if it ain't broke, don't fix it...
...and we were not talking about fixing. Improving is the word ;)
And I don`t courage everybody to open up and mod IT01 as just making it open-back wont improve it - it needs more tweaks to improve overall SQ of IT01.
Anyway, back to the topic from MMCX removal tools (that can be used for other things) - IT01 sounds great as stock too, it doesn`t need modding to sound great!

...just that I know it can sound better with modifications.

As said, improving is relative hence the 'fix it' reference, no, I do agree opening it would be ridiculous.

Subjectively & personally, sound quality is more than fine though I have found 'improvements' which appeal to me & I use that word loosely to describe cable rolling which I have mentioned in earlier posts on this thread.

In closing, sure anything could potentially sound better modding but then it would just be better to get something else, be it in ear or any speaker based device. That last statement reminds me of car modding.

Can you elaborate in more detail which mods have you performed? I guess most of the people here won´t be able to do the woodwork (possibly only drill the holes in plastic backplate).
Tweaking the bass by poking/taping the vents is relatively easy.. and what about the nozzle, did you make it bigger in diameter? shorter?
And have you measured the differences, or did you trust your ears? :)

(possibly only drill the holes in plastic backplate).
These mods won`t work with original plastic plates as plastic reacts to sound reflections/absorption/spreading differently, so, just drilling holes into plates won`t help and makes stock sound worse.
Tweaking the bass by poking/taping the vents is relatively easy..
None of that crap. This is totally different approach with "pressure/reflection cylinder" uniform with backplates.
Btw, I experimented with driver back venting filter too (no damage done to originals) but don`t recommend to mess with it - iBasso got it 100% right.
and what about the nozzle, did you make it bigger in diameter? shorter?
None of that. Stock nozzles are great. All I did is removed grills and left open-nozzle but one can probably use "free-flow" mesh which doesn`t "block" the sound, if using without is problem.
Additionally, I`m using ultra-wide bore S size tips.
And have you measured the differences, or did you trust your ears?
No measuring gear unfortunately and I rely solely on my ears. This mod is tuned to match with my source gear (HW&FW modded DX5X).

Like I posted in chi-fi thread, I will post longer about it in detail sometime with some sound analysis. Patience

I'm also super interested in your mod as the other member is. Does the connector (short cable) convert the original cable to balanced? or you had to mod the cable as well? Appreciate

Sorry for not showing the cable clearly. That cable that you quoted above was the IT01 stock cable itself. I just had it modified (reterminated to 2.5mm balanced Furutech plug). My DIYer friend just cut off the original 3.5mm plug still with a couple of inches of cable left from the original cable and was then attached with a female 2.5mm jack from FiiO. I hope I'm making sense here.

By the way, here are the items that were used:

Thanks so much for the detailed response. Just got my pair of it01 and really enjoying them. Your friend did a great work and the explanation definitely make sense to me. I just don't trust my skills to do this mod.... I was looking around for a affordable 4.4mm balanced upgrade cable and found one in the earlier post. Guess I'll just get that for now.

Anyone has un-even output in the right ear? I got my pair 2 days ago from Amazon and really enjoying them. I put them on for 3 hours nonstop re-shuffling all my collections last night, and about the same mount total listening during my day-commute. Gradually, I noticed weaker right ear output vs the left. I thought it was songs related but actually seems common for many songs.. It can be monitored through my USB DAC which has L/R info. When I took them off my ear, I felt awkward cause right ear became 'numb'....

For a note... i used cans way more often then IEMs.. just wondering if this is a natural process.

Please check the screen to make sure there is no ear wax buildup. Even though you just got them, this is easy to happen. We have had some IT series returned to find out that it was clogged screens that caused the imbalance. You can also try switching the right and left to see if the imbalance follows. They won't fit right but you can check volume. Also check to make sure the plug is fully seated in the dap or amp.

Yes, I had this with my first pair. I measured the FR and left channel was few DB over
