@chichaphile Great DIY solution! :D
Just to say though, in my experience iBasso have great customer service and if you message their rep Paul on here, I'm sure they'll be able to do a full repair/replacement :)

I personally prefer the AM05 ver Etymotic ER4xR, it comes through as a bit more natural. ER4XR is a bit fatiguing in detail, not smooth and not only detailed, but also a bit grainy, AM05 is mid forward, but sweeter, more fun to listen to! :)

I swapped out the stock AM05 cable for a pure silver Fiio LC 4.4 balanced and WOW! did the sound of the AM05 take off. I'm having a super hard time choosing between the AM05 (with silver cable) and the Thieaudio Legacy 5 with upgraded cable.

I've just received my DX160 and AM05. I find the AM05 quite bright compared to other IEM's I have. Will it improve with run in? Paul said the combination would give a warm sound.

Huh, I have both the DX160 and the AM05's and I wouldn't come close to calling that combo bright. Wouldn't call it warm either.

To me the AM05 are smooth and musical, not bright at all. Warm would be a personal interpretation to an extent but if musical/natural is warm, I would say the combination is just a little warm but some burn in is needed.

Just looking at the reviews on here, words like thin and bass light are mentioned a lot. Sending it back.
That is because they use the wrong tips. You have to find the tips right for your ears. The AM05 is not thin or bass light but not for a bass head either.

The reviews here say it is. I tried Spinfits that have worked with every IEM I've tried them with. No difference.
I have seen some that do not say that. And I don't like Spinfits as to me, they blur some of the details. But do what you need. But they are not thin or bass light.

Darren, im sorry the AM05’s didn’t float your boat. They do mine out of the DX160. I’ve been going back and forth between them and the Thieaudio Legacy 5’s. I love them both - abet for different reasons. But I personally would never divest myself of the AM05’s. But we’re talking about your ears, and if you’re not happy, whatever you decide will be correct. Good luck finding their replacements.

What would be a good upgrade from iBasso IT00? I love mine, but i want even more of it hah. Would for example Fiio FH5 or FH7 be a logical upgrade? Would be willing to spend up to 350ish eur.
