iBasso DX80 Bug Thread - Post Any Firmware Bugs/Issues Here

May 13, 2016 at 1:04 PM Post #946 of 1,489
I'm using Westone 3's.  They are now discontinued.

I also just tried with my Klipsch Image S4, and still hear the hiss, although it's less pronounced.  Probably just because they are less resolving and extended in the treble than the Westones.

I can not hear the hiss with my Audioquest Nighthawk headphones.  Based on this, it just seems like the DX80 was not designed to play nicely with IEMs.  I'll have to make a decision on whether I'm ok with that.  Most of my portable listening will be with IEMs, so there's a good chance I will have to send this one back.

There are many, many variables with this sort of set up, not the least of which is the acuity of your high-frequency hearing! That said, I am not hearing any appreciable hiss between the DX 80 and my Hifiman RE-600's. One thing I have learned by doing a lot of reading on this forum is that the output impedance of the source device (quite low in this case) can cause problems with hissing in certain IEM's. So there are other reasons that otherwise fine DAP's and IEM's might have hiss problems. It may not be the DAP per se, but the match between the two. FWIW.

Can you PM your serial number for the DX80?

I had the same problem with hifiman re600-s, 16 ohms, 102db/mw sensitivity.
Tried with 32 ohms iems, no more hiss
I have to say my ''first batch'' dx80 was way worse than my ''latest batch''.
Hiss still present with low impedance, high sensitivity iems, but acceptable.
Btw full can panasonic hd10, 18 ohms, 92 db/mw, no audible hiss.

Anyway dx80 doesn't need low impedance, since has plenty of power.

I was told by Paul from iBasso that based on my serial number, I was sent one from the original batch.  I purchased this from B&H Photo, which is listed as the US dealer right on iBasso's site, so I'm a bit surprised that I would receive an original-batch, semi-defective unit from the dealer specified by iBasso themselves.

I guess I'm just frustrated because I've had a run of bad units in my search for a DAP.  I first tried a Fiio x5ii, which ended up having issues with the USB not working on DAC mode or storage mode on any computer I would try (Windows 7 laptop, Windows 10 desktop, or Macbook).  So I sent that back and "stepped it up" and got an Astell and Kern AK Jr.  Had it for a week when all of a sudden it just stopped working and got extremely hot, so much so that I was afraid the battery was going to vent.  It never turned back on and wouldn't hold a charge after that, so back it went. Now I am auditioning both a Sony A10 and this iBasso unit.  The Sony hands down slaughters all the others in terms of fit and finish, UI, battery life, form factor, ease of use, etc.  However, it's also the least impressive sounding out of the lot.  I like this iBasso probably the most out of them all, so I really hope I can get this hiss issue resolved.

From what others are saying, my Westone 3's should have no issues, as they are around 32 ohms, 120 db sensitivity.  Just sucks that I'll now be out of the iBasso for probably a week+ while it's getting exchanged.  Was gonna call B&H but they close at 2PM on Fridays (What?).

Okay I heard a little bit of hiss too, but not much than a cheap Chinese mp3 player made (the hiss in this cheapie is too many as hell lol)

I wonder if we back to older firmware before the one that drain, dx80 playback time will back to normal and not draining anymore?

Just want to follow up the battery draining issue when unit is switched off. It seems that it was due to the tweaks implemented in Lurker's FW.

I installed the official ibasso 1.4.2 and so far no battery draining when the unit is switched off.

It appears that some of the units are not affected by the Lucker's FW. Another user reported that no draining with Lurker's FW 1.4.2. My unit is from the first batch of DX80 and is affected.

Also I don't have the battery draining issue when using previous version of Lurker's FW.

Hi, I have foud a new bug for the "Card reader". Most of the times I connect the DX80 to my PC it doesn't show any of the two sd cards inside, but when I connect and then restart th PC finally this works. The bug still happens with differences between USB port 3.0 vs 2.0, the second one works great.

Is it normal for the battery to drain even while music is not playing?  I unplugged my DX80 from charging about 20 minutes ago and it was 100%, now it's 97%.  How can it be using battery if it's not playing?  This seems like a bug to me.

Edit: I will also note that I am on the latest firmware: 1.4.2

Mine discharged from 100% down to 80% after 12hrs when in complete shutdown. Going to bring it to service centre next week...:pensive: I've try firmware 1.3x there's no difference. I also noticed playback time is considerably shorten.

I'm wondering if this battery drain is another defect present in the first batch of units?  Battery drain is usually a software problem though.

What is this "Lurker" firmware, and why would one install that over the iBasso stock firmware?

On a sadder note, the cable on my Westone 3's actually just started acting up yesterday.  I've reached out to Westone to see what I can do to have it replaced, but they may be kaput.  Pretty unfortunate since I've only been using them since December 2013.  So I may definitely be in the market for some new IEMs.
