iBasso DX80 Bug Thread - Post Any Firmware Bugs/Issues Here

Same as official, but with CPU run at full speed and unused files removed.

I'm wondering if this battery drain is another defect present in the first batch of units?  Battery drain is usually a software problem though.

What is this "Lurker" firmware, and why would one install that over the iBasso stock firmware?

On a sadder note, the cable on my Westone 3's actually just started acting up yesterday.  I've reached out to Westone to see what I can do to have it replaced, but they may be kaput.  Pretty unfortunate since I've only been using them since December 2013.  So I may definitely be in the market for some new IEMs.

CPU at full isn't suppost to drain more battery?
When we have only one process running, maybe less, but not more, because CPU sleeps when the process has nothing to do.

This is strange then, that with the stock firmware, I am seeing a battery drain when the unit is turned on, but not playing music and with the screen turned off.  In about a 20 minute time span, I am seeing about 3-4% battery drop.  That means that in about 8 hours, if I didn't have it set to turn off automatically, my battery would be dead without me even touching the unit.  This does not seem right to me.

CPU is not the only power consumer. Maybe the least consumer. The DAC and analogue audio part consume much more. They (and XMOS chip) never sleep. DRAM always consumes as well, althouth it refreshes not so often when the CPU sleeps. Flash cards also never sleep.

Don't compare with smartphones and tablets: they have much better power management. In DAPs, the power management is sacrificed for the sound quality.

So, if you have turned the player on, use it to listen music, or turn it off.

Thanks, Lurker.  That all seems to make good sense.

However, my projected rate of battery drain puts the life of the battery at 8 hours, with no music playing.  Is it safe to assume that the battery consumption will be even higher while music is actually playing?  If so, that would mean my battery life is less than 8 hours, which is far below the average reported life of about 12 hours (from what I've read here in the forum), and the published spec of 13 hours.

The battery indicator is not linear.

My (real life) battery life tests are closer to 8 than 12.

today is the first time i encounter the looping power off issue. Power on and it goes off. the unit suddenly power off itself after playing 1 song and goes into the power off looping.

FW 1.4.2

has been using this firmware without any problem until today.... did a few hard reset and finally get the DAP to work normally again.

If you can please try the Batch Tool to do the FW update. This does a wipe of the internal memory and a clean install. I have also reported this.

iBasso Stay updated on iBasso at their sponsor profile on Head-Fi.
