There definetily should come out a new version of dx300 with a dual or quad ESS chip and even more refined sound. I hope it will be released soon

I'm not a big fan of Sabre sound but am also waiting for ESS-based successor as long as it also means new amp modules compatible with DX300

Wonder if Cirrus Logic is actually discontinuing the chip or just having difficulty keeping up with demand. Seems crazy they would stop making CS43198/31 chips when they’re so widely used.

Today had an opportunity to compare the dx311.2 vs a&k sp2000t in person.
So the impressions after one hour of switching back and forth with Beyers xelento, Fiio fa9, kinera nanna 2 pro, kinera skuld:
iBasso dx311.2: better staging- wider, more expansive, bigger, more expressive sound, better bass which gives an impression of bouncing off the walls. Warmer even with the AK sp2000t set max on tube. Warmer bass, warmer mids, more emotions. I was shocked.
A&K sp2000t: a bit better trebles: more even just tiny bit more detailed. That's all.

Yep. I remember a/b-ing AK240 and AK380 w/amp (three versions original, CU, SS) way way back. Volume matched versus a few dac/amps and daps(DX200).

And some later DX at shows.

Basically came to the same conclusions as yourself.


I have not heard their most recent offerings of the last 2 years or so..

It's on the same level as the dx311.2. having some things better but other things worse. I think even the sp1000M was bit better. And the battery life melting in your eyes- like max 8h with the dx300 having like almost 17h in my case.

Briefly compared to the kann alpha but it was cruel for the alpha in this case. Completely different level when it comes to the layering, staging, holography. Alpha sounded congested and flat, boooring.

If you expect any AK DAP to compete on UI, Apps or battery life with the DX300 you will be disappointed. SP2000 runs Android 6 and has max 6 hours of streaming.

The SP2000 does some things better, the DX300 others. It will come down to personal taste. For me, the mids are far superior on the SP2000, the stage and imaging are better on the DX312. If you prefer the SP2000 you have to accept the other shortcomings such as UI etc.
