Too bad on the DSD, as I already have quite a few DSD512 albums.
I believe it will be converted back to DSD256 for its playback.

Not sure it can be done. On 1Z, it simply can’t read the files.
Oh I explicitly asked their authorized retailer for this, and this is what they told me, so no compatibility issue for DSD 512. :)

Ah I see. Thanks for the clarification :relaxed:

interesting - the DX160 doesn't do that, it simply skips DSD512 tracks
I think I will need a different info source to confirm this comparability info. :) Let me ask Jannie on Monday.

Well, if you have DSD512 and wanted to playback on any device that is incompatible, it is best to convert it to the highest pcm capable of the player. In this case, it is PCM 384.

The MQA would also be capped out at this sections, so that means when available, it does 8X. Now, is this the SOC or the FPGA that is unfolding ?

Will there be more on FPGA ? Can it do all PCM to DSD ? The FiiO M15 does it

Yeah this would be the solution, though I prefer just to play them directly on the DAP and not having to convert the files to PCM.

I agreed, and while it is strange that the newest flagship doesn’t do the DSD512, everything else yells “flagship” for sure. Be noticed that DMP Z1 doesn’t do DSD512 either

Why not just use TEAC hi-res editor and convert dsf 512 to dsf 256?

That is because TEAC doesn’t so a good job on processing PCM into DSD. They optimized their hardware and software for DSD recording natively or PCM recording Only. However, I do agree and recommend using TEAC hi-res as a free alternative to convert DSD512 into PCM384 instead if you want to play on Dx300.
There are other better method, like AUI converter and HDplayerPro, but they cost money and a lot of money.

Dx300 is powerful enough to be down converting DSD512 into PCM384 by itself from using 660 and FPGA. However, the sound quality of the algorithms in comparisons to other offline conversion programs would need to be compared. I do believe that theoretically, the whole system in hardware is more than capable of doing a great job without using any other offline processing at all for DSD to PCM

I take Xrecode3 to convert into different file formats.
Like converting a SACD.iso into DSF.

If you ant pcm i use for DSF->PCM dbPoweramp music converter suite, to my ears the resulting pcm is transparent. JUAT ONR QUIRCK th dsd decoder from dbPoweramp is brickwalled at 50kHz so if you want anything pcm 176.4 and above there will ko be data above 50kHz

FWIW, one of the ingenious features of MQA is that one-and-the-same MQA file plays on all devices, unfolding to the maximum supported resolution on each device. Quite convenient in comparison to creating copies of files tuned to different devices' capabilities.

How would you describe the DX160 sound sig compared to wm1A stock HW with Mr Walkman DMP-Z1—FE Firmware? Ia the sound profile more akin to the late 2009 iPod classic?
