Thanks.

Then maybe the DX300 is like the M15? But the M15 is quite old by now, almost a year and a half, and definitely better than the M11 Pro, which costs $649.

If so, then that's not saying much for the DX300...it should be materially better than the M15.
Haven't heard any of the ~1000 dollar daps released recently (Shanling M8, ibasso DX300, fiio M15, Hiby R8), I've only heard the Cayin N6ii with its various amp modules but even with the better modules it only matches the DX220 + aftermarket amps. Not good for the price.

What I will say about the DX300 is that I am really enjoying the balanced LO. So that I can run it via a 4.4mm plug into dual XLR into the balanced input for my Cavalli Liquid Gold. Allows me to get the most out of the DAC of the DX300 and listen to the Utopia which is sensitive but at the same time benefits from more power. Happiness. :)

Cayin C9 unleashed the full potential of DX300 and Sony IER-Z1R. It preserved the neutral, balanced and a bit laid back sound signature of DX300, but brought the control, power and imaging to the next level.

Just received my DX300 on Friday from @Andrew DiMarcangelo...shameless plug for Andrew and Bloom Audio if you haven’t given them a shot yet. Best customer service in the biz.

I don’t have a lot more insight to add than what has already been discussed, but wanted to share my early impressions, which are versus the DX227:
-just on user experience overall, this is worth the upgrade for me personally; screen is gorgeous, and it’s super fast; the 227 feels slow and clunky in comparison (as one would expect)
-no issues loading Tidal or AmazonHD; everything loads very quickly, including album art, etc; no issues with WiFi dropping, etc.
-the 300 is big, obviosuly. Pic below is next to my 12 Pro. I put the 300 in my pocket for a walk yesterday, and I would say it just about hits the upper limit of my tolerance
-I’ve noticed that I’m able to listen at slightly lower volume levels versus the 227 (adjusted for the different volume scales); for example, with the set-up below, i would have volume on the 227 at ~130, versus 70 on the 300 (if you adjust, like-for-like would imply something more like 85 on the 300)
-from a SQ perspective, it’s pretty early yet, but I would say the most notable differences versus the 227 to my ears are a much wider stage, along with more forward and much better articulated mids/vocals; I’m sure I’ll notice differences in bass and treble, and other technicalities, as I listen more

Which mean we can expect much of improvement from upcoming amp modules. Something to bare in mimd when deciding wether its worth keeping it.

Unfortunately, DX300 with AMP11 does not have a real LO, it is the same output PO with a different volume level setting. If real LO is what you are after, R8 is I think is a better choice for now. Let's hope there will be a real LO board.

Other than that, with offline over-sampled files in NOS mode it is an excellent pairing with Solitaire P. Horns in the piece are actually a bit sharp with D8000 Pro and D9200, but with Solitaire P, which has leaner upper mids but a bit forward bass (but the clearest, almost est level bass with not rolled off subbass), it is perfect balance. Well textured, speed is not bad at all. Listening to the the bariton sax in this piece is very convincing for a portable. So far the best portable pairing with Solitaire P I have ever heard.

Exactly what I mean. :)

I am waiting for amp9 for dx300. I think the mids of dx300 is a bit too thin.
With what headphones? I find the mids to be gorgeous- layered detailed and organic - with my Elysiums.
