Just for the refence, which player do you find not "boring"? If you want something warm and musical, this one is not for you. But like I said, all is a matter of a personal preference.

So DX220 is warmer than DX160. How do they compare to QP1R assuming you heard it? From reading maybe the DX160 is more like the QP1R than the DX220?

I set the DX160 to high gain, 30 on the volume and used the IT01. So far 8.5 hours with 19% left on the battery.

The fact that these Android based players don't have Google Services is such a waste of an opportunity...

True, though Google Play store in not there, APK Pure store is pre-installed (that's how I downloaded Qobuz and AnTuTu 3D benchmark apps). Also keep in mind that @Lurker0 will probably release his fw "fix" sooner or later where he usually includes Google Play. And who knows, he might include Mango OS too.

Fully charged to 100%, using balanced 4.4mm output, low gain with U18t, playing hi-res FLACs at normal listening level in a loop with occasional screen on to check battery status - got 9.5 hrs of playback until it went down to 2%. In theory, using single ended 3.5mm with 320kbps mp3 could probably get up to 11hrs.

The mid-tier DAP market is so competitive right now. I own both the Hiby R3 and Fiio M6 DAPs. Each have their own pros and cons. I use both Qobuz and Roon for streaming services and am trying to decide between the DX160 and Hiby R5 for my next purchase.

I've never owned an iBasso DAP, but the biggest shortfall appears to be the Rockhip SoC. However, the appeal of the DX160 lies in the amp stage which can power a wide range of headphones. Someone was talking about how their Audeze LCDs can "sing" with this DAP. Great to be able to have have an all in one DAP where you can grab most any headphone depending on you mood.

The Hiby R5 can also power a variety headphones, but has the advantage of the faster Snapdragon 425 SoC, better battery life, and native Google Play store. Although Lurker may fix that once the DX160 has been released for awhile. The only thing with Hiby is they left a bad taste in my mouth with their R3 support.

I feel like I'm splitting hairs here. Sounds like early impressions of the DX160 from the community are mostly positive. Can't wait for more reviews from the HeadFi community.

Really need to figure out if the Qobuz and Tidal offline experience on the DX160 is going to be adequate. Hiby R3 never delivered on Tidal offline. The Fiio M6 works very well with Tidal offline, (more than acceptable to me) but Qobuz is way too laggy and freezes a lot. M6 is a great ultraportable for the gym, but I want something with more power and speed.

This is going to be a tough decision.

Using Qobuz app with DX160, downloaded album for listening off-line without a problem. No freezes or lags either when listening off-line or streaming on-line. But, that's just my experience.

Twister, Thank you very much for sharing your experience with running Qobuz on the DX160. This is very encouraging. I can't to see you review. I assume you'll be posting one in the near future?

Interested in hearing your thoughts comparing the Hiby R5 to the DX160.

Apologies in advance, as I suspect this has been asked/answered, but I couldn't locate it in a thread search:

Does the DX160 support the Tidal app natively, or does it require OS hacks/mods?

By default iBasso Android DAPs don't come with Google Play store, but they DO now have pre-installed APKPure and CoolAPK app stores that function similar to Google Play - you search, download, and install the app you need. I assume hack/mod is in reference to Lurker's fw which adds Google Play. But now, you don't even have to wait for it or if you are not comfortable installing it, just use APKPure and CoolAPK.
