I ve been wanting to ask this for a while , but have been busy(& lazy) .

I mainly use my DX100 with my SR 71B and HD 800s (and some occasions just HD 800s and DX100) .

The HD 800s are a bit much to travel with , or walk about etc . So i ve been reading alot on here about IEMs ,and so far Heir 8as have impressed me ,but elsewhere i ve read about Future sonics IEMs , tho i ve seen nowt here on them .

From simply reading the Future sonics IEMs pique my interest ,not that im overly impressed Bono and Flea use them as on stage monitors(tho as a bass lover i respect Flea ) .They ve got pretty impressive reviews all round tho .

These are the 2 i may be bouncing between ,as Heirs on here get raved ,and other where reviews on Future sonics IEMs impress me . The one thing concerning the heirs that holds me back is i need to get ear impressions done , an added expense , and the fact i live in such a rural area and i dont drive , the nearest (Ear specialist ? ) is at least over night from me UGH .Meaning id have to pay for travel , and over night stay expenses .

Id appreciate some in put on this matter , as i need to get around with my hi res music ,and the HD 800s are nt the ones for that . Ill prob even lighten the load and just tote the DX100 and leave SR71B at home .

As I mentioned in my previous reply, the Future Sonic's customs do require ear impressions. There are kits available to take one's own impressions, but I would not recommend that for expensive IEM's, as it is doubtful that the manufacturer would be willing to make adjustments due to poor fit if the impressions were not done by a professional.

You might wish to consider the non-custom Atrio IEM's, also by Future Sonics. These are very comfortable and have deep and plentiful bass. They have a dynamic type transducer and are highly regarded by many. They are also very reasonable in price when compared to custom IEM's.

Definitely start out with trying a slew of universal inears - and the Atrio should be on your shortlist. Buy used and resell with little or no loss until you find The One that has the sound you're after. Then, if you want to upgrade from there, you can start looking for a custom to match that sound signature.

Id have to say the sound im after is what the HD 800s give me ,tho possibly with some deeper bass. Tho  I need to admit as happy as i am with the DX 100 and more so the SR 71B driving my HD 800s ,i have never heard these cans driven by a full sized amp ,so i may be missing something yet ?
 
And as happy as i am with the SR 71 B , the L3 has piqued my interest , in an ever quest for more and more and more LOL . But i can only afford one purchase ,and the need to to have portable sound compared to my HD 800s is more important at this juncture .
 
I surmise the Heir 8As or future sonic MG6 pros may not be as hard/demanding to drive as my HD 800s ? And i would possibly be even happier with their output in my particular set up ? Is that reasonable to assume ?
 
 Also ,Sorensiim , when you advise the atrios (& others ) ,is this also in mind that i should have the budget for the Heir 8As or FS MG6 pros ? Just over 1,000.00 Canadian dollars ?
 
PS ,can i also add i prefer the ability to switch/customize/upgrade cables myself ,and judging from pix ,only the Heir 8As seem to have cables i can switch in and out myself , as i can and do on my HD 800s . Maybe i should nt judge by appearance ,as im use to my Dragon silver etc,sturdy thick cabling ,from pix the cables on these 1000.00 plus ciems seem very flimsy at least ,so switching my own at will would be my ideal .

Neither the 8.A or FS Atrio will sound anything like your HD800 - both are much more bass-heavy. See if you can pick up a set of Heir 4.Ai or another neutral-ish iem instead

I have noticed over the last month that I have been turning up the volume more and more.
In quiet office environment, it has always been set around 138 (mid Gain). It has slowly been increasing to 155 where is now.
I am using the same CIEMs and unless I have started going deaf, the player is needing more volume to get up to a reasonable loudness.
Am I the only one?

I ve been thinking this one over , constantly bouncing between Heir 8As and FS MG 6 pro
 
Im like a ping pong ball LOL . But i think i may have decided on the FS . My reasoning is this , im a tad underwhelmed with bass on HD 800s , BUT extremely pleased with absolutely everything else about them , soundstage is brilliant , voices , and strings , and instrument seperation etc . But if im going to spend over a grand on ciems ,im thinking go for great ,but in another area .
 
I imagine ill be using the ciems for more heavy genre music , with bass etc  being a requirement ,Ie Claypool ,Pastorius etc...as when im on the go im normally listening to faster heavier music , even heavy metal & at home with HD 800s ,sitting still , it can be quieter music , classical , jazz etc .
 
So im thinking if i spend that much , why not get something different from what i already own ,and what i feel im missing , BASS , low end , drivers moving the air LOL .
 
But im stuck , extremely stuck geographically , as i ve said im no where near an audiologist , in a rural area ,i dont drive ,and to get to paid transport you actually need some other form of transport UGH . So i emailed FS and David hoping there may be an audiologist near me i dont know of or some other method . I have nt received a response yet except for the courtesy one you get to more less say we received your email , or a courtesy update on their products ,so im not sure if i will get a response . I suspect i will as ive read so many raves on their customer service . I hope so

I have nt noticed that , but i will pay closer attention .

Me neither. I have set the vol to around 191 (mid gain) from fw 1.2.7 onward til now and am using CIEM also.

My DX100 volume sweet spot is also ~190 using the mid gain setting, on my CIEMs (Ultimate Ears personal reference monitors, which have a 1 kHz impedance of 31 ohms).

When you mentioned 138 at mid gain, you got me worried I was deaf. What ciems are you using. Because with Miracles 150 is a minimum for me, and with universals, 165 to 175...but now I see some people are at 190 so I am reassured. The volume is very different from one IEM to the other....
 
But otherwise did not encounter this problem. Are you sure your eq is closed ?

I haven't noticed mine getting quieter. My volume sweet spot is around 210, med gain. That's using Westone 4Rs.

Wow that's loud dude, i have my Westone 4Rs on 185, low gain. haha.

I'm around 140-160 with my W4R. Usually listening in a quiet environment.
