In the 1.2.3 firmware they were actually handling the voltage to the Sabre DAC slightly different, so the SQ suffered. Try downloading and applying that update (totally reversible), then listen for the bass to come all lose and sloppy

Oh and when I say "all lose and sloppy", it's still better than most DAP's out there, but not very good by DX100 standards.

Fart-incontinence but for a DAP

Interesting stuff.. so basically, the firmware updates are changing the ways that the power is being drawn and utilized... Hopefully they can make it even more efficient. Thanks for the info!

1.1.7 sounded fine as well, looks like 1.2.3 was just a single brainfart. 1.2.7 does sound damn good, so maybe 1.3 will be even better?

This is a question for the computer guys out there:  why is it that the 1.2.7 upgrade has improved the sound quality so drastically?  I had always assumed that sound improvements were a matter of hardware, not software.. does this mean that the next software upgrade could improve the SQ even further?

Sound reproduction can be improved both ways.

Compare the sound of Winamp and Jriver on a computer: they both are windows softwares but they sound different. I think there's somewhat the same improvement between Winamp and Jriver than (resp.) 1.2.3 and 1.2.7 firmwares.

The bass is tighter, the treble smoother (yet more extended) and the overall sound cleaner with Jriver. It's quite hard conceiving a player software can make any difference, but my ears don't lie and I my wallet might cry another $50,00 for the player.
I had to use EQ with winamp for my RE-262 to tame some harshness in the mids. I need no such thing with Jriver...

Hmm am i suppose to be able to control the volume on Ibasso when hooked through lineout with O2? what should the volume be set on the player? when hooking external amps to lineout :)

Personally I use max, then use the amp volume knob as the real volume control. I used to think this was funny but it seems quite common...some desktop DAC/amps allow you multiple options.

In a way this could make sense..maybe carrying from the speaker setup where your amps (or the big mono block amps) have no volume control but your pre-amp does.

On my T1 amp I put the T1 to half volume and the DX100 to around 150 to 170 max depending on the track. Keeping it at max or near max is too much volume for me. Not enough volume control and still it sounds too rich for me lol. Doesn't sound right then :p.

I already did. Not AK100. RWA AK100. So no flaws. :p

Nice. Got to admit the ak100 looks very sexy, be interested to hear how the sound compares to the dx in your opinion. I've been considering trying it but that's on the back burner as I've just invested in a set of k3003's. The dx is feeding those very nicely.
