I'll try it with Denon D9200, Dan Clark E3 and later with ZMF Caldera Closed
For Dan Clark E3, maybe the amp is a bit to " weak"
I'll post it, later when I get home 😎
Dont see how D16 is weak when it can drive hd800s. At least when comparing to any portable amp/dac integrated.

The only portable amp that is more powerful is PB5 .... more than that is just desktop level

There is always something more powerful: C9I and II, LP EA4,...
After a certain threshold it's more about tuning and synergy imho whereas some Overears can indeed scale - though you can get that effect cheaper using stationary desktop amps

xduoo xd05 pro is the most powerful, 2000mw.
Powerful in my opinions is the ability to deliver that power and not just number on paper.

For example, both cars have specs

A: 500lbF and 600HP
B: 500lbF and 700HP

However, the A will do 0-60mph in 3 seconds whilr the B will do in 4 seconds

The reasons can be as many but example of B is heavier by 1500lbs and Torque peaks at 5500RPM where as car A is 1500lbs lighter with peak torques at 1500RPM

Simply looking at Torque and HP on paper doesnt really do much

For amplifier, there are current delivery curves and damping factor vs resistivity curves. These specs have never been published by aby companies. The only way for you to tell is to buy one pr trying to demo one and decide for yourself

In the end, everyone will try to sell you a product with a simple number of mW or W @ 32 ohms....and personal preferences

Undecided with one of these or a hugo2. What have people experienced owning or used both?
We all seem to experience things a little bit differently. I preferred the D16 as I find it a little more dynamic, transparent and overall better rendering of the music. I find the Hugo a little bit slower, sounding with piano strikes having a better transient speed on the D 16. Opposite of above, I find the resolution a little bit better on the D16. on this why there would be a difference of opinion between some of us I don't know, but it is what I hear and I have a lot of time listening to natural sounds non-amplified sounds and acoustical types of music.

you wandered a lot. the point is i also have xd05 pro and it is much more powerful than d16. it is also much more suitable for a headphone jack. the d16 is not powerful enough to drive serious high-end planar headphones.. they work well with iems.. a high-end desktop amp eg violetric dha v590 mk2 (+ musician aquarius r2r dac) that i use with my headphones is a different level than a d16.. but the 6400mw 50ohm and the others matter a lot now, I won't go into detail. it gives uncompromising amplification to high-end headphones... but the d16's size, power, and battery structure are limited, and it's a compromise for power-hungry planar headphones, that's it, there are no miracles. however, the d16 works nicely with iem earphones.

This, i do agree. I drives my HD800s with 300B amplifier that has 4000mW per channel and it isnt far from what D16 can do.

To each of his own, if he says it is weak then there are plenty out there to play with. I am also sure another friend of mine who have experienced gears that people can only dream of will also agree @purk

I myself have been through too many gears to come to this conclusions. Quality and finesses dont equate the simple mW@XX ohms

Which HD800s do you use?
