By the way, I thought that the small button was used to adjust the volume of the amplifier and the big button to adjust the volume of the dac. I was also curious as to why on earth the amplifier's volume button was designed for such a small button when you use it often. But for the sake of clarification, the small button is the volume of the dac and the big one is the volume of the built-in amplifier.

You know... if they (iBasso) would actually produce a decent (and readable) manual... I would love for someone to explain to me why I have to hold the thing at a perfect angle in the moonlight on the 12th of may before it's secrets are revealed.

Hey guys anyone know what booth this will be at in SoCal CanJam? Would love to give this device a try :)

Bloom Audio always has a full iBasso collection at their tables, so I do not doubt that @Andrew DiMarcangelo will have it there.

I was planning to buy D16, but know I am even more confused. Why is there 2 volume controls and what is the difference? I thought the small one where for gain, input selection etc. and not for volume.

THX

when you PRESS the SMALL you get acces to "settings", otherwise the SMALL is DAC knob and BIG KNOB is AMP

I think the majority here agree that it was stupid on ibasso's part to make the dac part volume controllable with the small button, because to achieve the best sound quality, the dac must always operate at maximum output power, so that the amplifier receives the best possible quality and signal, this applies regardless of system, it is absolutely outrageous that there is no normal user MANUAL where not only this but everything about the device is described in detail. anyway, it really confused me, because at the beginning I thought that the small button set the volume of the amplification and the big button the dac volume of the defiance... Meanwhile, it is just the other way around. I believe that the designers know everything about it with their eyes closed, but these things are not at all clear to a user who gets their hands on it for the first time.Other than that, the D16 is a great device.

I wouldn't agree. You don't have use digital volume control but if you need it to fine tune, it works great. Just leave it from 90 to 100 if that suits you and be done with it. And it serves to also to into the menu for gain and other functions. So simple, so easy. And as you have noticed, the DAC section is excellent. It rivals costing far, far more and in such a nice small package. :^)

Exactly this! One have to understand that the large knob is analog stepped attenuator, which means it can only attenuate a certain fixed db of loudness between each steps. It works great for fullsize, but for very sensitive iems, 1 step up may be too much and 1 step down may be too little. This is where digital attenuation comes into play.

It would be simple and easy like most normal dac settings, so without adjusting gain and volume. The possibility of modifying these two only confuses the users and is totally unnecessary.

Most DAC settings are digital attenuations where the bit losses are a fact, which Ibasso is dealing away with such degradation. I am sure you are not alone in feeling what you feel, but the majority of enthusiasts love what Ibasso has done, which not many others are doing.

IMO, while Ibasso is doing great things with this hobby, others are thinking of a way to dressing up their products in a more fancy design, more blings, more hypes, and MSRP as much as the moon by itself
