I sometimes listen to the music while I'm lying down on my couch, and when I stretch myself up, I can hear visible electric statics and pops. They are very brief albeit annoying and concerning. Is this because I don't have an amp yet? This issue was nonexistent with my last model (I returned it) and I was (and still am) driving the music out of the laptop.

I am not sure about that.
I think it is fairly stable... but again, until I save enough to buy a stable amp with adamant jack input, I can't tell for sure.

I would think it is coming from the laptop jack or the 3.5 to 1/4 adapter you are using.
