I have Pressure in My Head, Feels like my Head Explode - What is the cause?
Sep 18, 2012 at 7:00 PM Post #31 of 45
I have no idea and nor does any of the several doctors that I have visited. I also have muscle spasms in my upper back and tingling in my feet and legs. I have had all sorts of test done and nothing is ever found. However, one doctor had me do an MRI and he discovered that I do have a pinched nerve in my neck. I take theraphy 3 times a week for the pinched nerve and it eleviates some of my pain in my upper back.  If you should find out more about this pressure in the head please post it here for all of us. There are a lot of people with the same condition that we have. Hang in there and don't give up hope for change to come for us.

People you do realize that this post was started over a year ago, I'm sure the OP has seen a doctor by now so we can all stop with the suggestions.

But maybe there are other people who have a similar issue and can find help here.
One of the things I like about Headfi...OLD threads that often answer NEW questions that people,(including myself), come up with.

Instead of starting a new thread, I am often searching for pertinent threads among the many older threads on this forum.

As a physician, I find it hopeful that threads like this remain, and that many people are urging their comrades to seek professional help.

Your ears are an integral part of your skull and sinuses.
Many people develop complaints like the one that started the thread due to IEM over-use.
Some of these problems can become permanent, if not unchecked.
Some folks even end up with perf's eardrums and permanent nerve damage, and hearing loss.

What good is all the high-tech gear if you can no longer hear properly?

If a person has symptoms, and these can't be resolved by simple "trouble shooting" and a change in listening behaviour or equipment, then, stop what you are doing, and, yes, see a physician.

Best of luck to all the head-fiers with concerns!

Better make this a sticky, then. We wouldn't want undue pressure to befall others as it has this fellow:

You have me interested. How does an IEM lead to these complications. Give me a step by step timeline of how this all happens.

Hi extremists,

For the last several days I have been getting a lot of pressure in my head. Pretty much entire head on pressure and I feel a little lightheaded. Headache is very minor, it is mostly the pressure that is worring me. The only drastic change I have done in my daily life is that for the last 3 months I have been using my set of IEM.  I rarely use any head/earphones other than this.

I have also been watching a lot of videos on my iPad 2 lately. This is my first pad device ever.  And I use my Etymotic HF-5 IEM with it everytime.

For more info, I am short-sighted, and have a pair of glasses that I am supposed to use at all times. But for viewing videos from portable devices I didn't think I would need to keep my glasses on, however there still has been a lot of strain on my eyes.

I am not sure what the cause is to my problem. Does / has anyone having / had this problem?  What was your experience?  What did you do to resolve?

Thanks,

Sounds like sinusitis brought on from an infection.

Did you feel light headed or nauseated, I had both a while back and felt like dying.

My head constantly felt like it was in a vice.

Does the back of your throat taste funny, milky like as that'll be the nasal discharge from the infection

See your doc for a look, all you can do for this is take antibiotics the saline might relieve the pressure a bit.

Some asprin will help, and in ni cases drink tea/coffee/alcohol.
But get it confirmed first.

I've seen several doctors who misdiagnosed the problem before I saw my migraine specialist and cardiologist. I was given medication for countless sinus infections which was not the problem. I was tested for hypertension, which I also Do Not Have. I changed my diet completely and exercise. I even quit smoking real cigarettes. And guess what none of it helped. Still have the pain. Which only happens in the morning right when I wake up. So yeah, even my doctors cannot figure out why. I have noticed that I can't walk, I completely lose mobility in my legs. The only thing that seems to have any effect on the already painful experience is a milkshake brain freeze experience. And the hope was changing too have no more, didn't work. I won't even mention how much I owe in medical bills that my insurance didn't cover.

I've had a similar issue for over a decade; it feels like certain muscles in my head and neck (temple, jaw, etc.) are tensed up and can't relax. I've had it checked out by a bunch of doctors but they never found anything, so I'm starting to think it's simply musculoskeletal. Maybe I just really need a long series of deep neck and shoulder massages.

For the time being, I've managed to find minor relief through a variety of methods:

1. Opening my mouth wide
2. Pushing my lower jaw forward
3. Putting my head down
4. Tilting my neck in certain directions
5. Pushing the muscles around my temples forward

Man I have this exact same feeing on and off for the past two years.  It feels like an intense pressure like my head is going to implode or explode, I can't decide which.  but it comes from inside my head.  And seems to get worse when I stand up after working a long time in front of a computer. Some days I don't have it and I feel totally normal.  Other days it is so intense it affects my work, hard to focus with the pressure feeling.  Its uncomfortable. Doctor's don't seem to care or offer any explanation.  I wonder if the OP discovered any cause.

Might not be related, but have you had an eye check recently? Might be eye strain caused by working (I sympathise) at a computer screen too long.

I I have experienced similar symptoms since Nov 2013. I had ongoing problems with my sister for 3 years I was constantly worried and anxious about this, when it finally came to a head on the last week of nov 2013 ,when I came of the phone that night I was really hyper and anxious,I decided to go in for a shower, just before I went in for a shower I felt a strange sensation in my head,I had never felt this before,I usually feel good going in for a shower but this feeling in my head was worrying me.when I got ready I went to the pub and had some drinks, but this feeling in my head was in the back of my mind, I was trying not to think about it.so every day after that I was drinking every night for 2 and a half months as I was still struggling to get over the deaths of my mother and father back in 2007 .this strange feeling or sensation in my head was still going on day after day and showed no sign of going away.in jan 2014 I saw my psychiatrist for a routine appointment,I told him what was going on in my head and by jan 2014 the pressure was getting a bit more intense and it was a bit like a strange form of stress. He said i can't do anything for your stress and nothing was done about it.as the weeks and months went by it was still going on,I was going to my Gp and telling him about these symptoms but he said it was psychological.as the weeks and months wore on the pressure in my head was getting more intense,I felt I had no where to go and didn't know what to do.It was getting to the stage where I was going to my Gp 1 week and then A+E the other week and the doctors were telling me they didn't know what was wrong,so in July 2014 I was sent for a CT scan and that came back all clear ,and by the summer of 2014 the pressure was getting worse,I was really struggling with my sleep,In the summer of 2014 I decided to loose some weight so I started walking every day as it was a good summer.I was walking 5 or 6 miles every day,I was walking for 2 and a half weeks solid and in that period I never slept a wink for 10 days. I told my doctor,he never really said much, I said to him should I continue with the exercise, he said yes.but I gave it up because I didn't want to push my self. The pressure in my head is enormous.other symptoms I'm having are,I'm breaking wind all the time,I'm having diarrhoea a lot, feelings of being hyper, pushing myself Physically, feeling aggressive, being aggressive, feeling paranoid,4 weeks ago I had an MRI scan, that has also came back clear. Please can somebody help me as I haven't been getting anywhere over the last year and a half.Sorry about the long text as I have had so much to write about over the last year and a half.
