Hugo TT 2 by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

I’ve noticed all of the Chord stuff is a bit oddly designed for better or worse. I purchased the Chord TT2 as it’s a fantastic starter kit. It’s an amazing Chord DAC, a powerful desktop headphone amplifier, and it’s a decent preamplifier. And it’s the perfect design match for the Chord M Scaler. I’m not sure there is another $5,000 product that does all of this just as good.

That said, eventually I will reduce the Chord TT2’s role to just a DAC with the M Scaler or keep it as the heart of a secondary system. Perhaps I’ll also buy a Chord Dave 2 when that comes out. As later on, I’d like to add a high-end analog headphone amplifier and a high-end analog preamplifier. For the obvious advantages, I want to slowly move from all in one components to separates.

Actually, I think I just talked myself into an upgrade. I’m checking now to see I can upgrade my order from a TT2 to a Dave. Later on, I’ll run the Dave into something like a Luxman P-750U analog headphone amplifier. In the meantime, I don’t think the Focal Stellia is that hard to drive.

The volume is at -45 on low gain with the Stellia for me... Feels weird to have some much power left.

Since a couple of days i have this problem: when i turn on my TT2, it is charging (showing CHG in the display), and then when it is ready, it gives a loud plop in the left channel, and after that a static noise is audible (only in the left channel). I can hear the plop and static noise through my headphones and through my speakers.
It makes no difference if it is in DAC, AMP of HP mode. It also makes no difference which filter or crossfeed setting is on. High Gain or Low Gain, volume setting does also not make a difference.
I have disconnected the TT2 from the power overnight, but the next morning the same thing happens.

I will return the TT2 for repair, i assume it will be fixed under warranty. I wonder if anyone else here experienced this problem?
My apologies if this was already discussed in this thread, but i could not find anything about it.

My personal fun fact for today, TT2 vs TT2 + Violectric V281:
- TT2 alone able to produce slight better micro detail, the thinnest texture and decay at the end of each instrument's note.
- Bass is thicker with V281, as expected.
- Midrange actually fuller (and slight thicker) from TT2 alone (not expected)
- Treble similar quantity, with V281 pairing might produce a little more harshness with bad recording.
- Soundstage wider in combo with V281, depth about the same.
- TT2 + V281 has harder hitting impact through all spectrum
- Vocal has more bite, that translate to more energy/emotion with V281 pairing
- TT2 alone produce smoother mid to treble area. Also more relax signature.

Tested using Ansuz X RCA cable, and ZMF Verite.

Does sound strange.
Before you return your TT2, email support@chordelectronics.co.uk.
They may suggest you return your TT2, but there is always the slim chance that they will propose a solution that avoids the need to return your TT2.

Sounds like Exactly the same thing happened to me after only a hour or so of use. Did you happen to see a puff of smoke through the ”porthole”? Does it still play any music Or just pops and static. Just wondering what type of input you were using? I was only using USB. I ended up having to exchange the unit.

since day 1. my tt2 is still holding fast. check your hugo's now....ask yourself does my hugo2 crack open like an organic egg from tesco which has been moulded together in 2 parts? the answer you find is an astounding no.

Just a sign of poor built. It's all OK if it was ibasso or fiio. But not at chord prices

If I was experiencing any of these issues as stated above, well... It would be a return /refund situation, no repair

the appearance of two halves is a deliberate design feature.

I’ve had 4 different Chord hand assembled in Britain devices. The mscaler had a screw rolling around inside. It took three different security screwdrivers to finally replace it. It was noticeable as soon as you took it out of the box. Not good. I do think their design is cool though and does require the hand assembly. Quality control is a bit lax as several people have posted issues.
