Hugo TT 2 by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

@Rob Watts

I came across a small speaker which suits my set up. I'm new to this so given the following specs could TT2 drive it directly? (amphion one12 is the speaker)

I understand TT2 is approx. 8W single ended and 18W balanced. The problem is the back of the speaker only shows single ended connections and it states a minimum of 20W is needed in the specs. Many thanks for the clarification.

  • Operating principle: 2-way, passive radiator
  • Tweeter: 1" titanium
  • Mid / woofer: 4,5" aluminium
  • Crossover point: 1600 Hz
  • Impedance: 8 ohm
  • Sensitivity: 84 dB @ 2.83V/1m
  • Frequency response: 78 - 20 000 Hz +/-3dB
  • Power recommendation: 20 - 100 W
  • Measurements (HxWxD): 259 x 132 x 220mm
  • Weight: 6 kg / 13.2 lbs

TT2 will be pretty close to 20w balanced. The speaker connection is the same either way, whether feeding a SE signal or balanced. You will need a balanced to speaker connection cable. This set would be perfect, because you can compare SE to balanced:

The real question will be how flat is that 8ohm impedance, or does it rise and dip across the FR.

A lot probably depends on what you want to use your speakers for.
If it is as desktop monitors whilst you use your computer, you will probably be fine.
I can direct drive my 86db speakers as monitors with the Hugo2 on less than half power - your speakers are only 84db so approx half as efficient, but I think the Hugo2 could just about manage it.
Based on that, your TT2 should also manage it for desktop use.

If instead you want to play loud music in a large room, then you will only find out when you try the TT2.

... How much time did the HUGO TT2 need in order to perform in the right way?

I agree with the answer you already got.

The TT2 is excellent from the start. It is the listener that needs time to adjust to a much great detail level.

The adjustment period is quite quick.
1. It is great from the start. The first few days are a flurry of new details in music, and some can be difficult to place.
2. It's just a matter of listening and getting used to the TT2.
3. Most of the adjustment happened quickly for me, and during a week at most.
4. After a week there are still revelations, and lots of them.
5. I think the TT2 never really stops being amazing, or appearing to get better. My Hugo 2 surprised me every day, and the TT2 does too.

E.g. I spent a few days not having heard any music. I was PC gaming and generally busy. After that 'no music gap', I put the TT2 on and was knocked back by how good it was. I still can't believe I own it.

would i still have to use balanced out as the idea of doing that in my first exploration into desktop monitor use worries me. the single ended out on TT2 seems much more user friendly.

Folks, please check out this video of the America's Got Talent 2019 winner Kodi Lee, singing with Leona Lewis.

That's point blank one of, if not the best or equal best, male vocalist's that I ever heard. Incredible that he is also blind and autistic.

Congratualtions to him. He is a star, and I will buy when he releases music.

Well folks, looks like I'm joining your club! Bought the TT2 Black brand new for a steal of a deal, and also trading in my Qutest in the process. Mine should come on Tuesday as well!

I'll be pairing it with my Cayin HA-300 tube amp with Psvane ACME 300b tubes and 1952 Sylvania 6SN7GT 3-hole Bad Boy tubes into my LCD-3F headphones
Skip your amp.

Thank you very much for your answer. I hope my system will deliver everything you describe. I will combine the TT2 with this Integrated amplifier and these Loudspeakers. I apologise for posting this twice..

You will still need an adapter either way to connect to your speakers. The one I linked above is the most user friendly, because you can easily switch between SE and balanced. Also, by using the rear XLRs, you have separate control from the front panel headphone outs. Useful for setting crossfeed, volume, etc.

Folks, remember that Atlas Cables make TT2 speaker cables. Balanced connection to speaker plug - cable, and in any length. Meaning no need for adapters. Just saying, as TT2 cables are being discussed.

The stock ones listed on their website are for Hyper 2.0 speaker cable. However they told me they can make them up out of almost any cable. If you ask them, they might be able to even do stuff like Atlas Mavros. (Like how could anyone go wrong with Atlas Mavros?)
