@Triode User, now you’ve got me wanting to try an optical connection again. I hope you haven’t led me down the primrose path of settling on believing that my USB connection is the best sounding in my system.

@bpcans I wanted to try optical because of what others say but my recent experiments do not leave me feeling that it will replace my favourites which are a) BNC output from my K50 to Mscaler or B) USB output from my K50 converted to BNC with the SRC.DX and then connecting to the Mscaler by BNC. I find a good indicator when trying things is that one starts off just using a test track but when things are going in the right direction time flies and the next thing one knows the whole album has been listened to. Well that didn’t happen in this case. On the contrary it was a relief to get back to my normal means of connection. I will try other optical cables though.

@Triode User

Nick, can you fix usb cables, meaning can you replace them, as my rudder pedals which uses a hardwired usb cable, well he cable is faulty and windows goes into a recognised unrecognised loop when I plug them in, they are decent pedals and I cant send them back to the company as they went out of business, but hey, if you could open the pedals up and wire up a 3m usb cable, that would be cool. Renumeration for said service is included.

I would do it myself but my hands and arms twitch like a mofo nowadays, so soldering is a no go for me nowadays unless the wires are mains wire thick.

@Amberlamps I can almost certainly do it for you but would not charge. Think of it as a favour or late Xmas gift.

PM me or email and we can sort what you need doing.

Anyone who is looking into trying the DIY ferrite core BNC cable route for there M Scaler try these by Wurth Elektronik and the part No is 742700781

These are not so heavy which will give a lighter cable. I am making myself a second set of Ferrite BNC cables using these lighter ones to go BNC into M Scaler.
Are these at the right frequency? I thought we wanted ones at 2Ghz.

I used this one: https://www.newark.com/wurth-elektronik/74270045/ferrite-core-cylindrical-845ohm/dp/08P2306 but the specs are for one ferrite, I believe. You’d have to measure the effect of 20 or 30 on your cable. I don’t believe there is a single ferrite with a 2GHz or higher value.
MIx 61 goes to 2Ghz and is what I use. https://palomar-engineers.com/ferri...ds/FB-Mix-61-RFI-Range-200-2000-MHz-c24443805

Thanks for those thoughts on DH Labs optical cables. I have dipped into this conversation about different optical cables because I have finally got a streamer with an optical output and have been trying it into the MScaler. So far the results have been very disappointing (smeared sound, indistinct bass etc) compared to usb or bnc spdif and I wondered if this could be down to the optical cable. Are there any others available in the uk that are worth trying to see if I can get optical to sound as good as the other options?
I use to be an ‘optical man’ I tried many different cables, I finally settled on an AQ diamond, I felt it did make a difference, quite expensive for an optical cable, mind circa £400 I think.
One strange thing I noticed though, and almost without exception, the cheap plastic type cables allowed me to play 196 files with no issues, all the more expensive glass cables I tried maxEd out at 96. I am struggling to explain why this is, but I suspect you may have the same results.

I have since moved to BNC.
