The FPGA uses the bottom of the case as a heatsink, so that should be the hottest area.

Yeah I know that but I dont want to pull out the cables and turn it upside down whist powered on.

Two of my mscalers balls were sticky, they wouldn’t pop back up, so I messaged matt and he said that i could open it up but with caution, it was all going good until I hit 2 screws that were not coming out, in the end I couldn’t get in to it.

On the whole, I think it’s actually working 100%

My setup, Nuc / source > MScaler > TT2.

I just did a IR temp scan of my setup minus my nuc.

The MScaler is 38.3 oC, and the TT2 is 35oC. So they are not crazy hot but thats just measurements on the outside of the case. Chances are high that its a good bit higher on the inside, but something similar to intels TDP will save things from cooking up.
That’s really warm, but I guess it’s within operating temperatures. I haven’t had any issues with my unit whatsoever

I turn off all equipment when I'm not using it. With HMS I simply pull out the plug from the back.

I was doing that when I first got my HMS. Now I just leave it on and let it go into standby mode on its own, which I’m okay with.

yeah, thats what I’m getting, not hot but warm and thats because it’s been on for 36+ hours, as I’m afraid to turn it off :)
Is your Mscaler stacked with the TT2? They should be free standing and as far apart as possible, not only for heat dissipation but also for RFI. Footers also allow air to circulate around and underneath them. I use 30 mm high Cereballs. The hottest part of my Dave is at 31.8°C and the Blu2 at 37.0°C, room temperature is 20.3°C. For reference my Heisenberg power amps are at 39°C.

I turn DAVE off but leave MScaler on. MScaler gets hot when operating, but is cool when in auto stby.
I have had my dave and blu2 on standby for several years without incident or any heat issues...seems better to me than turning off and on all the time

I have noticed that the worst culprit for temperature with my black dave and mscaler is direct sunlight. They both get hot enough to fry eggs. I just need to work out whether to use butter or olive oil.

i leave both my TT2 and HMS on 24/7 and they are next to each with around 5cm gap
