Got this baby yesterday.

Tested the unit for a bit,

Got advice from someone at AS forum, to set manual power settings and avoid turbo boost/spike.

Dsd512x48 works with any modulators with convolution!!!
But 7EC super brings temperature in the mid 80c and 5EC super in the high 70c,
the fan gets quite loud. I guess wouldn’t be an issue if you place the unit in a different room.

5EC, 7EC light and UL and Amsdm7EC 512fs - much better in temperature and fan noise much more acceptable!!

Using the touchscreen for hqp client qobuz streaming is actually quite slick!!!

Gaming - tried Contra operation Galuga, Efootball 2024, Party Animal, Need for Speed unbound, zero issues!

This little gadget is a beast!!!

Can I share a license key for HQ Player on a second device? The web site has very little to nothing in the way of a FAQ page.

A desktop key can be used on as many different devices you own as you please, I use mine on 3 different devices

So long as only one device is used at a time, according to the EULA.

Update:

installed Ubuntu 24.04.1, dsd512 7EC super temp at 65c, fan is barely audible!!!! It was like 80ish c in windows 11. I can leave it playing music all night!!!

Holy crap what a beast!!!

I know this can be done in several different ways. Did you install this as a Win 11 subsystem (i.e. via Microsoft Store app) or ...?

Just do a dual boot so everytime you start up there is a boot menu letting you choose between windows or Ubuntu.

It’s as simple as downloading Ubuntu, put it on a usb drive, boot it with the unit, and follow instructions.

Asus makes it easy if you ever screw up or don’t want Ubuntu anymore, just boot to bios and do a factory reset, Asus will reinstall windows for you through cloud

Judging on the performance, I wouldn’t be surprised doing a bit of fan tweaking, set Ubuntu to high performance settings, it might actually run dsd512 with dac correction!!

I wouldn’t be able to check that out unfortunately

Testing the battery life of the Asus on hqp use. Dsd256 dop 7EC super to my hidizs s9 pro plus dac/dongle will last roughly 2.5 - 3 hours (in Ubuntu) CPU temp is around low 40c. Not bad at all!!!! This setup is a realistic portable hqplayer dap!!!

Gaming (turbo mode under windows 11) is different, played a efootball match for 15 minutes, I am at 70% battery life hahaha

Shall I assume you're using one of the USB 3.0 ports to the DAC? And you did get the 100W PS option?
I have different use cases, on my desktop setup I use one of the usb 3.0 port connected to my ifi pro idsd dac.

I also use the Asus to send dsd512 through ethernet to rpi4 naa to my bedroom with the dsc2.

On the road, I just use the Asus usb c port to dac dongle amp to iems

As for psu, I bought this 100w that works with the Asus turbo mode with the dock but that’s really only for gaming nothing else

Good to know. At least we now know this setup has demonstrated the capability to process fairly demanding HQP settings while being compact, well-featured, fairly quiet, and cost effective when compared to some alternatives.

Yes the only time I ever need to use my 13600k with 3080ti gaming pc is in my main system when I feel like using some of the excessively demanding filters at dsd512. 90% of the times I just use Poly sinc short lp or xtr short lp or hb xs as defaults anyway
