How To Mess Up A Good Corvette!

Jun 8, 2009 at 5:24 PM Post #17 of 43
Today the insurance company picked up the 2004 Corvette, without inspecting it they are already talking total loss. This because of being submerged in a combination of sea water and rain water, including some of the computers and fuse boxes being under 4 inches of water. I think in their mind the fact water went in through the muffler's tail pipe clinched the deal. Of course it is not guaranteed and I will be informed in a couple of days. It was sad to see her go.

Move to higher ground if you want to keep your cars from floods.
It doesnt seem like a place i would live, and now hurricain season is upon us....june-november, and you live in prime storm territory!

Ouch those pictures hurt. I don't know how common flooding there is but even though I live in the Netherlands there are not a lot of floods here. Our government ensures that. Yours didn't and you live in America. Sounds like "Sue, sue, sue!" to me.

I have lived in this address since 1991 and never seen a flood like this even after several hurricanes. I have spoken w/ others who have lived over 25 years in the area and they never saw anything similar. Fluke storm/event!

What a tough loss Miguel. You could possibly try some adjustable coil-overs on your replacement vehicle just in case another flood comes your way, although in this situation the water would have still made it to the vitals. Hope your insurance company solves things amicably.

Man, I feel for you. Just yesterday, I got mad at my daughter for bringing a little seawater into the 370Z... we stopped by Malibu Beach, and I told her not to go in over her knees since she didn't have her bathing suit with her. Of course, next thing I know she's shouting "Hooray!" with waves crashing into her chest. I threw a few spare shirts on the seats, but it still soaked through. When I got home, I spent fifteen to twenty minutes making sure there was no residual saltwater to ruin the leather. Luckily it doesn't seem like there is any damage.

Needless to say, as much as I freaked out over that, I'd explode if I were in your situation.

That stinks, but at least you got some money back.

Go with the Westfalia!
