Easy! park it where a flood is coming!

Yesterday I left work early (about 2:10pm) and made it home as it started to rain real hard. Did not think much about it until a while later as the rain started to pound the windows. Next I know high tide comes and the street in front of my apartment building is flooded w/ over 20 inches of water.

Well I thought my parking lot is about 10" higher than the street and my Corvette although low should buy me about 4-6 inches of additional clearance. Was worried but nothing to do, if I had tried to move the car I would have had to drive unto the street which was at least 14" deeper in flood.

This morning I go to my car and the remote does not work nor any of the electrical windows. Saw there was up to 4" of water in the car, thus most of my computers (it has several) and fuse boxes (it has 3 of which two are on the floor of the passenger side) were under water. Just called the insurance and waiting for a determination, hopefully it will be totaled because flooded cars are almost impossible to repair.

Some pics for your viewing pleasure. The last is of the street in front of my building.

At least my 70 Beetle was in the shop and not affected by the flood.

Miguel, I'm up in the Tampa area and we've had some severe storms over the last two days, but nothing like you have encountered. Your plight has been all over the local news here and CNN has also been reporting on the flooding.

I hope and pray you and yours are safe. A car can be replaced, a life cannot.

Stay safe.

! Terrible! i feel terrible for you Mrarroyo, hopefully the insurance nets you another 85hp... corvettes have long been the only bright spot in a dreary north american lineup.

I am enclosing another picture of the mess we had, it is very funny in a weird kind of way to see a kayak going by in the east side of my building! I am on the water and the ocean is on the inter-coastal side (west side of the building).

On Monday the insurance company is scheduled to send a tow truck to start the process. By that time the car's computers, fuse/relay box, carpet, seats, mufflers would have been flooded for over 2 and 1/2 days. Yeah it will be a fun battle to get the car totaled.

Negative

Totaling it out will be the easy part. Getting a decent value for the car will be the hard part.

Sorry to see that happen, especially to a nice car. Hopefully, the insurance company will give you fair value.

If not, I've got a place you can store it in Yuma, AZ. It'll be completely dry in a few hours.

Thanks guys, if it get totalled ... lets just say instead of 350 hp my car should have at least 435 hp! Unless I find a sweet 67 VW Micro Buss, now we are talking.

Get an Atom! No carpeting to ruin and there are actually drainage holes in the tub by the driver and passenger footwells. What a bummer, man. Being a fellow car love, I really feel for you. Insurance or no insurance, it's a shame to see this happen to a car you're attached to.

Hopefully it was fully insured, so you don't hurt to much economically...
