So it really doesn't work right? Once activated the sound changes but it doesn't respond to further EQing? I want to make sure I have not received a faulty unit : /

No, I haven't installed RockBox yet. Just updated to the newest firmware.
Wow, you are right. I'm assuming this is due to rockbox?

The one at the Head-Direct web page. Don't remember the version number. It has progress on other areas, but eq is disabled as it is.

Ok well at least we know its not rockbox that is the cause. That makes me feel a lot better. But for some reason though I am finding the player quite listenable with no EQ enabled. Not sure why but usually I would have to EQ bass down by 3 and midbass by 1 with my FX700s. Not anymore it seems.

One note, my 601 was connected to my TTVJ slim amp , and the 601 was over the amp, both off, I came to take the rig from my office a static discharge happened when I touched the 601 and the TTVJ turned on, not the 601.........
Do you believe it, I have no explanation....

Its a bit tricky to remove the rockbox. I was able to but I had to open the device and bridge the 5 and 6 connector for a few seconds to get windows to detect the device. Then I had to install the driver for the 601. Then I had to run the image program to restore the original firmware.

It seemed a bit shortened for me as well. I ended up reverting back to stock firmware. Its a bit of a PITA doing it but it can be done. I'll just wait till rockbox matures for the Hifiman (I pray that is does as it is very much worth it).

Nice to see a detailed thread on this. Kudos, Tronz. It sounds a bit toooo unstable as yet but a worthy endeavour. Rockbox rocks.
