Can i use the software with games ?

No, this is a serious playback reference software.

What isnt serious about the playback of sounds in a video game? Is it simply this easy to find material that the system cant handle? I need to stop laughing before I hurt my spleen.

xfeed has a bad reputation because most of the times it's just a nasty "mono-ize" button, duh...like on those Meier amps.

a good xfeed should be hardly audible and only change the SS width, not the music tonality....the idea is to recreate the opposite channel "presence" to the human brain, so the neurons that take care of geolocalization can do their work. We need a very low volume/filtered/inverted phase/slightly delayed signal, nothing more.

Have you read the Meier description of his crossfeed? Have you heard his crossfeed? It is definitely not a mono-button.

Cheers, Lunatique.  I'm gonna have to try these different plugins - not the easiest thing for me to install.  Why all the hate for JR?  I only bought it for its full remote control interface.

The fact that JR plays through standard USB and onboard digital with better jitter management (I certainly can pickup the "fuzziness" that is added to treble transients when jitter is not optimised) than the freebie foobar is a bonus.  The fact that I have no negatives with leaving the xfeed on in the subtle mode is the icing on the cake.

I have had my D7000 with this combo for 3 days straight and re-exploring my collection with glee.  The best of Nina Simone to Snoop Dog and back to Ray Charles - Its quite incredible.  The mids are spot on (coming from HD650 POV) and the soundstage is immense with terrific imaging (K701 superseded), I do miss the intimacy that a tubed HD650 provides, but I'll always have them.  The D7000 crossfeed combo has about the same midbass response of the HD650 - lending a similar warm tonal balance, with the added advantage of D7000 treble response and sharper transients.  Lets not forget that impressive 20hz flatline.

The HD800 costs $2000 in Australia, The Denons are dearer at $2200 - Hell I paid $1700 - and wondered why.  Now I know why - once you can "open" the midrange - via good software crossfeed or alternatively tune porting the cups (my next project), I believe they are a superior overall can.  Untill the LCD2s come along - I have no desire for upgrading.

As an audiophile purist that has faith in silver cabling and power generation, I can highly recommend that closed can owners experience the full potential that good user adjustable crossfeed can bring to closed cans.  I don't think crossfeed developers are aware that open-cans have inherent cross cup crosstalk crossfeed (say that 3 times quickly) that are not factored into their algorithms - and this leaves only closed cans to fully benefit from this methodology.

How to get a closed can to sound open? Easy...buy an FA-003!

I have only one major complaint with JRiver. It is NOT STABLE. It crashes a lot. I'm using version 15. If I fiddle with DSPs while playing music I can easily replicate crashes of the playback. This is very annoying.

Otherwise it is a pretty good interface but Winamp is still the best for me.

What soundcard/audio interface are you using? Are you using Direct Audio or ASIO for the playback? There are all kinds of tweaks you can make in the audio output choices, and many other settings under the hood. It's actually a pretty deep app.

Lmao, complete opposite for me. As soon as I launch it, it crashes. I do have a decent computer (4ghz i7 920 with 8 threads, fully stable for 4 hours+, 6GB 1600mhz ram etc) with Windows 7 running on my SSD. So I just uninstalled it. Even had this problem on a hdd with my core 2 quad with XP. One day it just decided to stop working. I downoaded different versions, still the same problem. I use foobar2000 now and have never had an issue with it, but I did like the skins or Winamp and how easy it was to use (when it did work). Not to mention those visualizations...

SP Wild, where the hell is the D7000 selling for $2200 here? That is a rip off. Sure, they MAY sound like $2200, but why spend that when you can easily get them for about $800 from the US. Personally, I wouldn't pay over $600 for the HD800 (I have heard them with MY music [Stan Getz, Miles Davis, Iron Maiden, Metallica etc] and didn't approve of them).

"No, this is a serious playback reference software." This response startled me. Since when was gaming NOT serious? Look at all the gaming competitions around the globe...I surely take it more seriously than audio. I guess I like to be part of what I hear and see, not just sit back and watch/listen to it.

Since I am trading my HF-2 for a pair of MarkL modified Denon D5000 next week, I am going to give this program a shot!

Meier [..] Have you heard his crossfeed? It is definitely not a mono-button.

Well, that's how it felt on the Arietta....I certainly can't agree w/ all the praise surrounding it, and another friend of mine who's also a xfeed nutcase fully agrees...but anyway, the best xfeed I've heard is VNoPhones, all the others aren't subtle enough to my ears. I want something that makes my subconscious brain happy(no "deaf ear" feeeling) but I never want myself to realize that the SS has been messed around w/...I'm not in the market for a fancy room simulator.

I use Asio. Do any of the tweaks help prevent crashes? So far it seems to crash *because* I tweak it.

As fro Winamp crashing on opening it... man that's some messed up computer or winamp you have, Stang. I don't even install Winamp, I just play it directly from my USB. I have never had a problem with it over ten different PCs. Ever.

Lol the computer is fine. Every other piece of software runs fine on it. Winamp just fails at life. I am running 64 bit Windows 7 (like every computer user should), but I doubt that is the issue. It even used to screw up on my very old computer (Core2Quad with a hard drive; yes a hard drive. Ancient things...) and I was only running 32bit Windows XP Pro. I should give it another shot when I get back home, as I haven't for months.

I think Winamp was made with the intention of never working for people named Stang. :)  You shouldn't force yourself to use something you don't like.

*** EDIT ***

I knew it! I pressed "F1" on Winamp to bring up the Help function. Under the "Player Features" list it says,  "Does not to work for HeadFi users named Stang support."

Dang, man, sorry but it seems you're just outta luck!

Winamp is running fine. Must have had a crappy version last time. Currently running Isone Pro demo.

Jul 4, 2010 at 7:52 AM Post #42 of 67
I lied. Getting HUGE lag between song changes. So I uninstalled asio4all and it's better now, but through every song, the audio cuts out and all I hear is static. Been trying the Isone Pro demo. I think that is the source of the problem.

EDIT: Definitely the Isone Pro, or at least the VST plug in I am using to run it. Very annoying, this.

I had slowdowns with the Isoprone Demo too. I thought it was my Netbook being underpowered but I'm thinking your PC is up to snuff. It is probably a "feature" of the demo to cripple it so that you upgrade to the paid version.

It's not the VST plugin, I get the same problem with JRiver and Foobar.

Nah, I didn't know that. /sarcasm

Must be the demo. Still, when I was using asio (not a demo obviously) Winamp lagged like hell. Foobar was fine. So Winamp is still an unstable program in my case.

edit: Got it to work in foobar2000 and Winamp. Asio lags the hell out of Winamp still. Oh well, guess it doesn't really matter.

I don't really like the effects of Isone Pro. Soundstage is definitely increased, but vocals sound a lot worse because of this imho.
