How much is a gallon of gas where you live?

Here in Hawaii we lead the United States in having the highest gas prices for the past 5 years. Something that we're not to proud of, as of this week for a gallon of regular it will cost you $2.52 and for a gallon of super it will cost you $2.98. Gas prices cost even higher than that on the island of Maui and Kauai.

1 gallon [US, liquid] = 3.7854118 liter

1 gallon [Imp.] = 4.54609 liter

US gallon across the board - we buy in liters here - I did the conversion for comparison benefits. Border gas is just cheaper. always.

I counted with US gallon. Seems like there are other "lucky" places too. However, I feel that the high gas prices aren’t necessarily bad, as they make you think twice about throwing away our natural resources. Can you tell I don’t have a car?

I know someone who WORKS at the Torrance refinery and even SHE doesn't get a break! Go figure... can't even cut the workers a deal!

Up here in the SF Bay Area (San Jose to be exact), at one of the lowest cost Chevron pumps, 87 octane unleaded is $2.55/gal. Though I just pumped premium at $2.77/gal.

You might consider avoiding this site. With a salary like that, there are more important things to consider than this ludicrious hobby.

Well you guys will hate this, but you know Venezuela has a lot of oil. A liter of gasoline here costs Bs. 91. One dollar is approx. ~ Bs. 2100, hence a liter of gas here is $0.043, or in other words, gas here costs $0.16 per gallon. With one US dollar here, at official rate of exchange, you can buy 6.25 gallons of gas.

That is a seriously low price even for our own economy, since a 1 lt. bottle of water in a grocery store can easily cost Bs. 1000+, similar for a soda, hence 10+ times more expensive than gas.

The bad side though, I believe Venezuela still allows lead in gas.

It's not a question of Venezuela having a lot of oil -- the state must be subsidizing this.

According to the US DOE, one barrel of crude oil produces 19.9 gallons of car gasoline. At $0.16 per gallon, that works out to $3.18 per barrel of crude oil, even assuming zero costs for transportation or refining. Obviously, since crude is selling for $65 per barrel on world markets, the Venezuelan government is subsidizing your oil prices to the tune of $61.82 per barrel. There are no free lunches though. The citizens of Venezuela are paying higher taxes or going without infrastructure to pay for these subsidies or price controls.
