How much did you blow your initial budget by?

well recently, I set out to get a somewhat cheap amp for my A900's (needed something since I'm using my emu0404). so original budget was probably like $200. as I was looking around, and at posts on here, I saw people saying that the a900's improve noticeably with one of the ~$400 amps. so that tempted me, and I started considering some of those. I was thinking I'd get the XP-7 since I wanted the individual notes to stand out, sounded like something I'd like. but since it wasn't going to be used portably I'd have to get the powersupply which made it cost a lot more. then I saw the HR-2 wasn't all that much more relatively, and I didn't want to feel that I'd regret not getting an hr-2. So I bought that, and THEN I realized that since I had such a beefy amp I might as well get a headphone that would really benefit from it a lot, so I bought a senn hd650.

I think that I'm done upgrading headphones/amp for a looong time, but after hearing how amazing the hd650 sounds with the hr-2, I really want to upgrade the other stuff.

Originally I just wanted the A900s.
Then I sold the A900s and picked up some er4s
Then got a portable pimeta, then PPA.
Then a toshiba 3960 modded, then it failed due to defect.
Then a toshiba 4960 modded
Now I'm waiting for a high end SS amp and a possibly high end tube amp (depends on how it fares with other tube amps)
And Now I'm looking into a DAC

Haha, very similar to me! I budgeted $50-60 so I could finally get a good pair of cans, the HD497's were what I ended up settling upon. Since then I've probably dropped near $1000, but some of what I've spent has been recouped selling the old gear on the forums. Right now I'm probaby around $600 in the hole.

i never really set a budget. i was given hd-25-sp's by my dad when i was younger and i bought some stuff when those broke and now i'm happy with my sr-325's. i've spent... ~600$ total on headphone related stuff. i think i'm done for a while excluding the tube amp building adventure i want to start next year.

I am very disciplined. I research everything to death. I compare and compare again. Once I decide what I want, I look at my budget to see what's feasible to get. If nothing at my budget really tickles my fancy, I wait until I have more money to buy what I want. I usually set up a roadmap of where I want to be and how I want to get there. So far, I only blew my budget by around $200. I wanted to spend $800 on an amp and I wound up spending close to $1100, but I saved $100 on a CD player. Right now, I know exactly what I want and I know that I don't have the funds to get there just yet. So, I sit and I wait very patiently. Once I have the money or close to it, I will start waiting for a bargain and then I'll snatch it and hopefully, I'll make up the $200 blown budget funds.

Up til yesterday, I was under my budget by about half. Soon I will be 4.2x my original budget of $150. Not too bad.

I wasn't even planning on buying headphones in the first place. But fortunately, my next purchase didn't break my budget of $0 again (i broke even). but now that i got the k501's, i think i'll be about $700+ overbudget again if i get the k1000's...

Budget is for the weak.

As that crap saying goes - "if you have to ask how much it is, you cant afford it". And right now, its really a case of I cant aford it. Im a university graduate about to spend a grand on ******ED HEADPHONES!!! Can you believe it? Headphones? Of all things?????

I purchased Etymotic ER-4P with 4S adapter, and a Xin SuperMini and thought to myself, "Okay. I have nice speakers already, I won't bother buying anything else". Before then I had a pair of Koss KSC-35, and Sennheiser HD280 Pro. After that started to hurt... decided I wanted a pair of full open cans, so I got Sennheiser HD600. Didn't really like the HD600, figured it was my source so I bought an MSB Link III, still didn't like it - had it modded. Still no joy. Made my own replacement cables out of CAT5e, still didn't like it. Started going nuts with trying to make my PC a decent audio source, voltage regulation etc... LynxTwo... CardDeluxe... more headphones (Shure e5, Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro), some M-Audio DAC (too lazy to look it up), lavryblue, a pair of HD650 and misc things I am sure I am forgetting later (yeah, like Dynaudio BM15a speakers because my Swan M200's and Maggie MMG no longer matched the sound quality of my headphones in my opinion)... I wish I would have just got Stax Omega2, and this lavryblue DAC and called it quits. Would have saved myself a large chunk of change! And now I am thinking about getting a DAC for my laptop, and "upgrading" to ATC, Adam or maybe Dynaudio AIR speaker line!!! (Oh yeah, and that hidden cost of treating my listening room hurt like hell) ...also still need to pick a permanent amp -- my SuperDual, and Fisher 400C are starting to shake their head "No! Don't get rid of me!" as I reach for my wallet. I have the sickness... Someone remove it.

Well I started off with a budget of $100AUD(75USD) for Sennheiser HD-497's and since then I've ended up reselling them for Beyer Dynamic DT770-80's($150USD-210 AUD from commando) and right now am waiting for a deposit to confirm for ingmarwa's Pimeta-$165 USD-$240 AUD (http://www4.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=95142) So I've blown my budget by about $350 AUD or $265 USD.
